... and sometime more is WAY MORE. Most of us get the concept of offering a greater AAV for a shorter contract, but when would it ever make sense to pay a greater total for a shorter contract? I said I agree with offering him a 6yr/$180 million contract and would go no higher than 7yrs/$110-120 million. If he would accept a contract with fewer years on it, we should give him more per year so we aren't tied down to a long term deal.I actually like your 7-year 110/120M proposal better than your 6 year/$180M one. Which is ironic for me, cuz I was not for a longer deal So the question to all of you is: Would you pay Correa $60MM more (total) to shorten the contract by a year?
(If you answer 'yes', please explain why.)

I don't mind a higher AAV for a shorter time period. Especially for a guy like Correa where he likely won't age well.

Is it the same every year and we're just talking about $17 mil for that final season, or is it similar to contracts that increase as the years go on to where it's $20+ million for the 7th year?

But how is that 7th year structured? I don't think that matters. Whenever I've seen higher AAV for a shorter contract, the shorter contract still has a lower total. It makes absolutely no sense to me to be on the hook for a higher total to make the player go away sooner.

Like he did with Cole, I think Crane will put an offer on the table after Correa's eligible for free agency. It'll be 7 yrs and $200M+

If the Astros win another WS or at least a pennant, I could see Crane springing for a bigger contract for Correa.
