The Lagares single was on a four-seamer at the very top of the zone. That's a pitcher's pitch so tip your hat to Legares on that one. Wong's fly out was on a changeup that was totally center cut. Definitely a mistake pitch. But it came after three perfectly located pitches. All three should have been called strikes. Two were.
The very next pitch was also sorta fat. A hanging curve. Ohtani singled. Right about there in a close game you'd probably pull the pitcher. But with a 10-1 lead, you have the luxury of giving him a chance to clean up his own mess and maybe even get a QS.
After the mound visit, he threw a slider at the top of the zone to Gosselin. Maybe a strike, maybe not. It was called a ball. The next slider was a fat cookie. Kaboom.
I’m pulling for it too. It would tell MLB that he’s great regardless of scandal.
