www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/11/gm-nick-krall-reds-must-align-our-payroll-to-our-resources.htmlThis move unblocks Tyler Stephenson who is likely to be the Reds primary catcher and frees up some payroll, although we're only talking about $7.5MM so apparently the Reds are going cheap. With only one year of team control for Barnhart (who has to Gold Gloves on his resume), this looks like a stop-gap measure for the Tigers. Jake Rogers is expected back roughly in September after TJ surgery and is the heir apparent as primary catcher for the Tigers in the future. The Tigers currently have several catchers although one or more may be traded later in the offseason. Dustin Garneau (acquired from the Rockies in August) who is arb-eligible. Grayson Greiner (might be out of options) Eric Haase (who also plays LF) With several young starting pitchers who have promising futures (Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, Matt Manning, and Spencer Turnbull), I doubt they'll be big spenders in the FA market for starters. But I think they'll sign at least one solid veteran. The Tigers are expected to be in the market for one of the many Shortstops who will be FA this season. Although I would expect any moves there to come later rather than sooner. This first domino to fall will probably be Carlos and that won't happen quickly.

Carlos to the Tigers, unless his wife vetoes it.

He doled out $200M+ for Báez and Rodríguez and both have disappointed. I wonder if he'd still have a job if he hadn't done that

Wow, I just saw how bad Javier Baez has been this year. That contract is looking horrible right now. 81 OPS+ with $120 million still owed.
