Harold Baines is in the HoF. Not Barry Bonds. Not Rafael Palmeiro. Not Sammy Sosa. Not Mark McGwire. Game changing and era-defining players are not in the Hall because of the gray area that were PEDs during their time period.
Curt Schilling isn't in the HoF because of his social media postings. He didn't use PEDs, cheat, or break any rules that anybody is aware of. One of the greatest postseason pitchers of all-time and he isn't in the HoF because sportswriters didn't like him.

the vote needs to be taken away from writers. Maybe give the vote to players or coaches, or maybe have existing HOFers vote on it. Or do it strictly based on stats.

Bonds, Clemens, Palmeiro, Sosa and McGwire haven't been inducted because they were all dishonest when asked about PED use. Others were honest about it and have been inducted. Baggy and I-Rod come to mind, as well as Tim Raines back when the PED was cocaine

I'm not sure why that's where the inductors decided to draw the line on the steroid business. It's just pretty obvious when you look at those 5 and what they have in common, that's why they won't be in Cooperstown
Rose is out for the same reason. He was obstructive and uncooperative at several points during the investigation into his gambling 30 years ago, and he continues to lie about his scandal to this day

While I understand why (East Coast Bias), it seems crazy to me that Edgar had to wait a decade, while Ortiz is on his way to being a 1st balloter.... Yes, Ortiz hit the 500 HR milestone, but even Biggio, who had the 3000 hit milestone didn't get in on the 1st ballot. It's getting a little ridiculous. The difference between Big Papi and Bigs was he took a bullet. |
