One of the guys who was also a writer while I was with Crawfish Boxes. He and another guy have moved on to do it almost full-time on their own, does a ton of his own research and analysis every year. |

Will JP France ever get a chance to pitch for the Astros? Long inning relief? Seems unlikely. Mediocre fastball and mediocre results. He does miss bats though, so I wouldn't rule out a relief transition helping his stock. He could also be a decent third-tier piece in a trade, someone who could come up immediately for a club and possibly be a decent back-end starter for a while. |

Astros have signed two draftees so far; supplemental 2nd rounder Andrew Taylor (full slot, $807,200) and 12th rounder Zach Dezenzo ($125,000).
I was hoping they could save money on Taylor to give to Clifford, so this is kind of a bummer. Hope they can work it out.

Sugar Land rocking and rolling tonight. 12-3 after the top of the 6th inning. Enmanuel Valdez is 2-for-5, Yanier Diaz is 2-for-3 with a walk and a bomb, Pedro Leon is 1-for-2, two walks and a SLAM.

Joe Perez was 3-for-5 last night. He's hitting .286/.375/.429 this month after missing a lot of time injured. If he could go on a tear over the next week he could be a nice piece (or keep him as a future utility guy, has played 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, and RF).
Dirden had a third hit. Lefty that has crushed RHPs. He's hitting .364 with a 1.099 OPS this month. Has cut his strikeouts a bit as well. Not sure why he's still in AA.
Logan Cerny has followed up a hot June with a solid July. He was 4-for-4 with zero strikeouts last night (the second part is even more important than the first part). An .856 OPS on the month.

Peter Solomon has had a tough season this year. He had a 6.12 ERA through the end of June. He has looked much better in July. In 3 July starts he has thrown 17 innings (6 IP, 6 IP and 5 IP) and allowed just 3 runs, 16 hits and 3 walks while striking out 13.
Solomon has done well in his few appearances at the ML level. I would like to see him called up now and Sleepy Maton sent down.

McCullers first rehab start went well for Corpus Christi last night. From the Hooks website:
“McCullers, rehabbing a right forearm injury endured during Game 4 of the 2021 American League Division Series, struck out the side in the first before working around a lead-off walk and an error in the second. Houston’s ace from a year ago threw 28 of 40 pitches for strikes while sitting at 94 MPH with his sinking fastball.”

1-for-3, 2 BB, no Ks for Cerny.
Yanier Diaz was 3-for-5 with another bomb. Enmanuel Valdez 2-for-5 with another bomb for him too. Valdez has 20 dingers in just 76 games this season.
A hit and a walk for Dirden, and two hits for Joe Perez.
