Why? What have they ever done? And why do you hold them to a different standard than, say...Espada? Maldonado has been proven to suck but keeps getting chances. Espada has been proven to only not be hired as a manager despite the endless praise. Has Espada even managed in the minors? Time to see what we’ve got with the youngsters. Lee really impressed this year...

Jake Meyers seems to be getting his hitting issues worked out at AAA. Since September 1, he is batting .342 with a .451 OBP and a .553 SLG. In his last 4 games he is 9-15 with a double and 2 home runs. He has walked more times (15) than he has struck out (13) in 76 at bats. In 35 games at AAA he is batting .305 vs RHP.
Sugar Land plays their last game of the season on September 28. Hopefully the Astros will bring Meyers up no later than Friday and stick him in CF (at least when the opposing SP is a righty) for the remaining regular season games to see if his recent success at AAA carries over to MLB. I don’t see how he could help but be a better option vs lefties than Chas and a better option than Dubon vs anyone.

It is a tough thing to have your livelihood taken away from you due to injury as Meyers was clearly the best option we had for center last year before he ran into that wall. So it is a great thing that he seems to be coming back around. Bringing him back up to give him a whirl for the last few games seems like a no brainer so lets hope they do and he does well.

Before he was demoted, his arm was so weak, he was a liability in CF I think we can agree that his arm is no more a liability in CF than is Dubon’s arm. If Meyers is brought up and shows he can hit, I would probably go with Meyers vs RHP and Chas vs LHP in the postseason.

I think they should go ahead and bring him up on Tuesday and put him in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game vs the D’Backs. Zach Davies.., RHP.., is supposed to be the starter for Arizona on Tuesday.

I wonder if his arm has gotten any of its strength back.

Y’all better pipe down about Meyers over Chas before his daddy Saint marches in here. A couple weeks ago I would have argued, but Chas is looking worn out. He had a really good Jul-Aug but this has been a dismal September. Before September he had gotten up to the .750 OPS range, but he's only hitting .220 with a .591 OPS in September. If Meyers has gotten hot and can provide a spark in the lineup for the postseason then you have to play the hot hand.

We're really not much better than average offensively as a team. We've got some guys have huge seasons (Yordan, Altuve, Tucker, Bregman) but then we counter with guys having fairly poor (or downright miserable seasons) like Gurriel, Dubon, Maldonado. With Chas, Pena, and Mancini having been mediocre overall, if we can add a little more offensive boost somewhere in the lineup, it needs to be explored.

He needs to shorten and work on more of a contact approach. He's shown huge progress on his walk rate. If he could cut down on the strikeouts and generate some more hits, I think it would be more beneficial than him trying to pop an extra HR or two. Kind of like Nick Markakis his last few seasons.

Is Meyers still eligible for the playoffs if called up this late? Yes. He was already in the Astros organization and on the 40-man roster on August 31.

The MLB umpires will probably fight against the pitch challenge being implemented at the ML level. Can you imagine how long a game would take with Angel Hernandez behind the plate if the pitch challenge was implemented in MLB?

Jake Meyers went 2-3 with a home run and walked twice in tonight’s game for Sugar Land. He has a 5-game hitting streak going in which he is 11-18 with 3 home runs and a double.
