For the Triple A affiliate of the Phillies, former number 1 overall pick Mark Appel is 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA. He was the number 1 overall pick 9 years ago by the Astros.

Sub-8 strikeout rate and a 4.27 xFIP as a 30-year-old in AAA. Doesn't look like much as changed. In my time with TCB I had some second-hand access to info from people in the organization; apparently some of the people who actually worked with Appel had complaints about stubbornness, drive and coachability. Dude sat out his prime (age 26-28) and doesn't appear to have improved in any real way with age. And he's not even a starter anymore; these are his results a reliever against AAA hitters. Color me unimpressed.
