I see that the Astros are next to last in the Rankings are we that depleted our highest rated player is #71. Did the sanctions really hurt the Astros this much or they just been lousy at signings and the picks they pick. Rankings

Not having that for two whole cycles hurt, especially since it happened a couple months after Greinke.

I am not too concerned over our rankings. Most of our "key players" are under contract. If our mlb roster was like the Angels I would be worried.

It's a combination of the penalties, lower drafting position due to winning, trades under Luhnow, and graduations. Our draft this year was excellent, giving me hope that Click will do a good job in that respect in the future (granted this year's pool of players was very deep).
That said, rankings can be overrated. Most of our pitching staff were not top prospects, and a few position players as well. Meanwhile so many heralded guys bust. Whether you have a farm highly ranked by the publications makes no difference if that farm is turning out quality major leaguers.

The way the Astros keep cranking out major league talent makes me give less credence to these lists. They keep finding ways to churn out quality players despite the experts constantly downgrading the talent. Luis García is a prime example. People need to remember he’s a prospect from A ball and look where he is now.

Every year we seem to get our most pressing needs meet with someone up from the farm. If Click can draft every year like he did this year, and our staff keeps developing the talent that we do get it will not take long and we will rival the Dodgers as they currently seem to be doing the best overall job of talent acquisition/development.

We need a 1B prospect that has power.

We need a 1B prospect that has power. You could argue we haven’t had a pure slugger at 1B since Carter.

Yanier Diaz 1B or Catcher? Yuli’s better than Carter obviously. I was talking meathead swing go boom hitter. Either way, it’s shocking that in all that time, they still can’t develop a 1B worth a damn. If Díaz is that good, I’d rather he play a position other than catcher.
