Despite being a little inconsistent the last few years, Yuli was a fine player during our golden era of Astros baseball. I personally feel he was a little overrated by a lot of the fanbase, but there's no doubt that he provided plenty of value during our peak. I have a feeling that the loss of his scooping abilities will show itself. I think there was still some value to be had with bringing him back if even just for his presence, but it's certainly no surprise that he isn't back with us. As for his time with us:
.284/.328/.448 .776 OPS 110 OPS+ 94 HR 435 RBI 400 Runs 1x GG 1x Batting Title 2x WS Champion He earned $62 million over 7 seasons with us.
He wasn't one of our best postseason performers, but he certainly had some good series' and some great moments to help get our championships (and in fact he performed his best in the WS).
He was an absolutely dominant Cuban hitter before joining our team. If he had been able to get here at a younger age, he likely could have put up some pretty impressive career MLB numbers. If you take out his minor league numbers, he ended up with the below numbers in Cuba/Astros/Japan (Brief):
364 HR 1493 RBI 1437 Runs 2497 Hits 526 Doubles 169 SB .318/.387/.539
I'll be curious to see if he can bounce back some in Miami.
