Dusty's deference to Maldonado's flashes of talent despite no consistency of a major leaguer may be related to his senescence, but the same can be said for his deference to McCullers. They might not even be Astros if we had had a different manager the past few seasons But at least when Lance is healthy he is a good player. Maldonado is always healthy but never good. Lance was supposedly healthy in the World Series and tipped his pitches in his first start like he was a rookie on Strom's staff. And when asked who he would've started in G7 had it gone that far, Dusty said the guy who got chased in G3. Same thing if you ask me

So Maldonado is now down to a .151 AVG with a .450 OPS for the season. He also had a passed ball, and allowed a stolen base while his pitchers gave up 8 earned runs in 8 innings. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he'll probably make a fine coach...but it's time to move on. Lee and Diaz may not be anything special, but they certainly can't be any worse. A .450 OPS JFC that’s horrid.

A healthy Lance sometimes poops his pants out there as evidenced by his last start.

Me too. I miss that little guy. Would you go as far to say that you miss that little dumbass, as Corch would say? Yes, if he tried going first to third on a comebacker to the pitcher.

Maldonado is usually the first Lance credits when he has a start worthy of a rotation frontliner anyway, so being battery mates it's hard to separate the two, at least for me

Dusty overvalues both of them. Maldy isn't the best option at catcher, and Lance isn't the best option to start G7 of an ALCS or WS
