I wonder if Oakland will be any good when they move to Vegas. It will still be the same cheap owner but Vegas will expect more. They could start by signing Ohtani to a massive deal this off-season....

Yeah, I'm fine with this since he needs the playing time to get himself right, but Salazar still being on the roster is silly. And I don't know how much longer they can keep going as they are before optioning Abreu and giving Yainer a look at 1B. You really think they're going to option Abreu? Not soon. But I'm asking how much longer this goes on before they do. Abreu has literally been the worst 1B in baseball this year. There are 41 1B this year with at least 100 PA, he's got the lowest wRC+ at 47 and is the only one without a single home run. It's getting to the point where it's hard to even quantify how utterly awful he's been. I'm saying, hypothetically, if he's still this bad in September, heading into the post-season, what then? What about next year? The year after that? At what point do they say "we have to get something out of first base" and do something? I don't think they will anytime soon, but only because he's a veteran and it would be a bad look and all that. The best pure baseball move though would be to demote him to AAA to see if he can fix himself there...or at least to just stop the bleeding on the Major League team, and give a legit prospect like Diaz a look. |
