So Altuve is trending in the sports world, because Mark DeRosa stated on the MLB network that he feels Jose is already Hall-worthy at this point in his career. Taking out the sign-stealing scandal that he'll be associated with despite reportedly not using it, is his performance already Hall-worthy?
At his current pace by the end of next season, he'll likely have hit all of these milestones:
2000 Hits 400 Doubles 1000 Runs 200 HRs 50 WAR 300 SB 800 RBI
Some of those he'll reach this season barring any injury issues. I used through next year because those are his guaranteed years as an Astro.
Add in the following individual awards (maybe more?):
1x MVP 1x ALCS MVP 8x All-Star 6x SS 1x GG 3x Batting Titles
He'll also be at least a 2x world champion and is currently 2nd all-time in postseason HRs as well.
For most of us I'm sure we all think he is, but there are some very notable 2B who are not in the Hall yet (if ever):
Lou Whitaker: 2000+ Hits, 1000/1000 Runs/RBI, 117 OPS+ Bobby Grich: 6x AS, 4x GG, 125 OPS+, 71 WAR Willie Randolph: 2000+ Hits, 1000+ Runs, 250+ SB, 65 WAR, .370+ OBP

I’m obviously a homer, but I think 100% yes as his stats stand today. It doesn’t hurt for him to pad those stats though and we know he will. He will be around for at least another 4-6 years.

Doesn’t matter because morons out there will keep crying, “Buzzer!!!” But enough people still voted him in as an all-starter last year. That says a lot.

If I'm trying to be non-biased, my argument (right now) would be how could Altuve get in with his current stats if Jeff Kent couldn't get in? (I personally think Jeff Kent should be a no-brainer for the Hall...) Kent is arguably a top-5 offensive 2B of all-time, with good postseason numbers, good individual awards, and plenty of good counting totals/secondary milestones. Much like Altuve in all those aspects. Altuve is the better basestealer, but Kent was an underrated fielder for much of his career and better than Altuve. I think Altuve should and will make the Hall, but I think for some of the voters, who likely don't love him already, will say he needs to get to at least 2500 Hits and keep his AVG at or above .300.
