They had Díaz in there and lost. The bottom line is they just need to prove they’re worthy of the division at this point. The two losses on this road trip were inexcusable.

Referencing Diaz with the loss makes no sense whatsoever. You put your best hitters in there. Diaz at C or DH, he should be in there over Jake Meyers. Also, sure we lost with Diaz at catcher, but we only gave up 4 runs and he contributed an RBI. Our last two wins, Maldonado was the catcher and we gave up 5 runs and 8 runs. Diaz was not the reason we lost yesterday.

They’ve got to go all out and help this beleaguered pitching staff.

Do we buy and try to make this team stronger to win a world series, or sell and retool for next season and go for the world series next year?

Starting pitching has always been the Astros’ staple for deep postseason runs. The Rangers didn’t hit on all their signings, but look at the effort they put into having a decent rotation: Eovaldi DeGrom Heaney Gray Who’d Crane and Friends sign for pitching, Montero?

Can't wait until Altuve is back and Dubon can go back to utility role/hitting lower in the lineup.

That's not completely fair. Going into the offseason our starting pitching looked pretty deep and our bullpen had been excellent. We were expecting 6 starters returning from last year. Nobody could foresee two starters going down for the entire year, another missing multiple months, and our recently-extended #2 starter going in the tank a 3rd of the way through the season. Framber being good overall and Brown being solid overall are the only two that have worked out as should have been reasonably expected. Nobody should have expected Brown to pitch like an ace. He's pitching like a rookie #4-#5 pitcher who has had some bad luck. Even if we say that we should have expected Lance to go down, nobody would have predicted Garcia missing the entire year AND Urquidy missing a ton of time. And, even though we all thought Montero was overpaid, did anybody think he would collapse THIS bad?

Bielak continuing to be a pleasant surprise. Yes he has. Probably our most consistent starter outside of Framber the last couple of months.

No one saw the rotation getting hit this hard, but to both rely on Lance and not add a veteran starter like the manager himself wanted was a bad approach. They even got Odorizzi to help the rotation last season. It didn’t work out, but it was at least effort shown.

We had 5 other healthy starters before even getting to guys like Bielak, Blanco, and France without relying on Lance. I don't care what team you are though, if you lose half of your rotation to extended periods of time, you're going to have problems. Nobody has enough depth to lose half of their rotation and still be an elite team. Especially adding in being without your two best offensive players for extended periods of time. The Astros are deep when healthy. But we got slammed with serious injury time. You can't blame Crane or Brown for that.

Who were you going to reasonably add? AAA or part of a 6-man rotation. I think it’s dumb to keep asking rookies to pitch a million innings to help the team go deep into the postseason and then say they’re tired and overworked. The veteran pitchers save you that headache.
