Looking at the Red Sox lineup, I couldn't help but notice that a bunch of guys are having surprisingly good years. When I looked up individual players, I was shocked at how many have very high BAbip figures. They have EIGHT hitters with a .331 BAbip or higher with at least 100 PA. That is a shocking number of guys who are just red hot. I looked up the team and sure enough, Boston's team BAbip is the best in baseball at .324, .007 ahead of second place Milwaukee and one of just four teams at .300 or better (Houston is 7th at .295 by the way).
Looking at those eight individuals, most of them look due for some regression, but frankly not as much as you might think. Boston has just assembled a sneaky-good lineup this year. One guy in the lineup having a great year for them is Wilyer Abreu. He was one of two prospects we traded them for a few months of Cristian Vasquez. Oof.

People don't like to hear it but Tayler Scott is likely on borrowed time. BAbip is under .200 and his walk rate is over 4.0 per nine innings. He really should not be used in high leverage situations.

Which doesn't make him not valuable or mean that we shouldn't hang on to him and keep working with him. But if they keep using him as a stopper in tight ballgames, it's only a matter of time. |
