The string of consecutive losing seasons stops at seven.
The team looked respectable by the end of April (four games above .500) but by the end of June their W/L record was 38-46. Ugh. At the trade deadline, they were sellers. For August and thus far in September, they are 30-17 (.638). Not too shabby!
So for the season to date, that's 82-74. With a good chance of making the postseason as a Wild Card.
For almost two months, they have actually looked like a baseball team. Patchwork rotation, but successful. Solid bullpen. Clutch hitting and aggressive on the basepaths. Even our catchers have no fear of going first to third on a single. Many of the young players have been called upon to play different positions as AJ juggles the defensive lineup after pinch-hitting to take advantage of Left-right or Right-left matchups. And finally, they've shown the ability to come from behind in the late innings.
Yeah, they can still break fans hearts by losing games that seemed to be certain wins. But that hasn't happened often in the past two months. Maybe we see some of the postseason this year, maybe not. But the future looks promising.
