How is the Galleria area, as a place to stay for a weekend visit and Astros game? I’m not willing to pay the prices for downtown area (or for the cost of parking at those hotels), so we usually stay in Sugar Land or Stafford. We thought we might do a different area this time.

I guess we could stay in Stafford as usual, and just Uber in to the game.

City Centre is nice. Good Brazilian steakhouse or Taste of Texas nearby.

Use hotwire or priceline for cheaper hotels in good areas.

The Galeria is made for people who don't care what it costs.

The downtown/convention center area hotels are listing for $250-500 a night for the weekend following July 4th. If you want to try a different type of Mexican restaurant....Goodie Company El Cantina has a mesquite type of flavor in their meat....Their Guacamole is pretty good...It is at Campbell and I-10 area (Memorial)...but because it is new, you have to get there early..parking sucks, so get there at 11 AM....not too far away is Jonathan's Rub, if you like home style cooking done with more a chef flair.....also for this type of food is State Fair at Gessner and I-10.... You probably have eaten at Perry's Steakhouse (multiple locations - but I-10 and Gessner)....and it is commonly known about their 1/2 priced Pork Chop on Fridays...It is also important to get their at opening time, especially on Fridays... All restaurants above are Memorial area.

I've never heard of Texas de Brazil, but there's a Brazilian steakhouse on Westheimer called Fogo de Chao, which I love. If Texas de Brazil is anything like it, I'd be interested

If Texas de Brazil is anything like it, I'd be interested It's exactly like it but not as crowded and with a better salad bar if you're into that. Plus City Centre is a nice date night location, imo. I believe TDB is cheaper too.

Food might be good but the minute they have a Salad Bar, Just the thought is terrible news. They always hide the stuff going bad there. When I was a Sous Chef I would never work in a Resturant that had a Salad Bar. All those people coming in just for the Salad Bar getting near me is enough to make your skin crawl.

That might be true about the Golden Corral salad bar, or someplace downscale. But ToT and FdC is nothing like that .. at all

I know you think its needed in Texas. Just my Opinion if a Place has to offer a Salad Bar to pull in more customers then the Food is not the best being offered. When I was visiting Family in Conroe everyone I ran into raved about the One Place that was supposed to be the Best. Sure enough, it had Salad Bar and some of the Worse Fried Catfish I have ever had. By the Way, what will all that Fried Food? Most of it isn't done right. There was A Resturant in Houston I forget the Name but it had exotic type Meats on the Menue, very expensive and No SALAD BAR. Food was Top Notch.
Just So you Know what I do for a Living Now is Sell, Repair and Install Food Packaging Equipment. I have been to every kind of Food You can think being Mfg. At least in today's environment, it has been cleaned up 95%. Now, most have to be SQF3 or better if they want to stay in business. even small Mom and Pop shops if they want to sell to Wallmarts type stores.
There is a Resturant near my house that without Drinks, it cost my Wife and Myself over $300 with tip and Apps. NO Salad Bar and the Place is Packed all the Time.

In General, I agree with you except they have access to the Best Cuts which as a Civilian you usually don't get to see. Just like the Best Fish are Sold to the Top Resturants and Private Clubs. Been there. A note worth mention. Back in the late 70's the USDA lower the Standards on how meat was to sold as. They weren't getting enough Prime Beef in so they lower the standard. Now, most Prime is only what Choice was. This tumbled on down the line. When a Cow Half in Brought in to the Slaughter Hose the USDA in Charge has to count a certain number of Ribs and that side of been is then Graded. The more Fat at that One Area would determine Prime all the way down to Standard and lower.

I get what you're saying, but the two places I mentioned are nothing like that. Calling them salad bars is an insult in fact .. they're salad stadiums really. They're designed so the whole family (including those who don't like meat) can enjoy as much as steak-lovers do
