Obviously this is all dependant on injuries, and likely most of these won't quite happen as players see more days off, but still fun to look at potentials. Quick and dirty halfway mark on-pace numbers:
Brian McCann: 10 HR 34 RBI 34 Runs 62 Hits 6 Doubles 0 SB .209/.289/.331 .620 OPS 78 OPS+ 1.6 WAR
Yuli Gurriel: 8 HR 74 RBI 66 Runs 158 Hits 38 Doubles 4 SB .298/.323/.415 .738 OPS 110 OPS+ 2.4 WAR
Jose Altuve: 14 HR 82 RBI 110 Runs 222 Hits 44 Doubles 24 SB .345/.409/.491 .900 OPS 157 OPS+ 8.0 WAR
Carlos Correa: 26 HR 98 RBI 92 Runs 144 Hits 32 Doubles 4 SB .268/.352/.480 .832 OPS 136 OPS+ 5.6 WAR
Alex Bregman: 28 HR 98 RBI 100 Runs 170 Hits 54 Doubles 14 SB .277/.379/.508 .887 OPS 151 OPS+ 7.0 WAR
Marwin Gonzalez: 12 HR 68 RBI 50 Runs 118 Hits 22 Doubles 4 SB .238/.315/.379 .694 OPS 98 OPS+ 3.0 WAR
Josh Reddick: 12 HR 42 RBI 68 Runs 102 Hits 14 Doubles 4 SB .274/.354/.409 .762 OPS 118 OPS+ 3.2 WAR
George Springer: 30 HR 84 RBI 118 Runs 166 Hits 34 Doubles 10 SB .260/.341/.455 .795 OPS 125 OPS+ 4.6 WAR
Evan Gattis: 30 HR 108 RBI 64 Runs 116 Hits 26 Doubles 2 SB .252/.313/.504 .817 OPS 129 OPS+ 2.4 WAR
Jake Marisnick: 12 HR 36 RBI 42 Runs 52 Hits 10 Doubles 4 SB .187/.221/.353 .573 OPS 61 OPS+ 1.8 WAR
Max Stassi: 14 HR 44 RBI 42 Runs 68 Hits 20 Doubles 0 SB .250/.329/.478 .807 OPS 127 OPS+ 2.4 WAR
Tony Kemp: 2 HR 24 RBI 24 Runs 58 Hits 12 Doubles 6 SB .319/.394/.418 .812 OPS 134 OPS+ 1.6 WAR
I only did players with 100 or more plate appearances. Look at that potential 4.0 combined WAR from our catching duo. And Alex Bregman with a potential 7+ WAR is putting Correa and Springer to shame.
Rotation:
Justin Verlander: 18-6 227.1 IP 272 SO .809 WHIP 1.82 ERA 205 ERA+
Gerrit Cole: 18-2 211.1 IP 292 SO .899 WHIP 2.56 ERA 146 ERA+
Charlie Morton: 20-2 191.1 IP 244 SO 1.108 WHIP 2.54 ERA 147 ERA+
Lance McCullers: 16-6 188.2 IP 198 SO 1.187 WHIP 3.82 ERA 98 ERA+
Dallas Keuchel: 8-16 204.2 IP 160 SO 1.339 WHIP 4.22 ERA 89 ERA+
Bullpen (20+ appearances):
Ken Giles: 0-4 22 Saves 55.1 IP 54 SO 1.229 WHIP 4.23 ERA 89 ERA+
Brad Peacock: 2-6 2 Saves 70 IP 100 SO .886 WHIP 2.06 ERA 183 ERA+
Chris Devenski: 4-2 4 Saves 65.1 IP 80 SO .796 WHIP 1.38 ERA 274 ERA+
Will Harris: 6-6 0 Saves 58.2 IP 72 SO 1.261 WHIP 4.30 ERA 88 ERA+
Hector Rondon: 2-4 8 Saves 58 IP 70 SO 1.172 WHIP 1.55 ERA 243 ERA+
Collin McHugh: 6-0 0 Saves 70 IP 96 SO .829 WHIP 1.03 ERA 366 ERA+
Joe Smith: 4-2 0 Saves 39.1 IP 40 SO 1.119 WHIP 5.49 ERA 69 ERA+
Tony Sipp: 4-0 0 Saves 37.1 IP 34 SO 1.071 WHIP 2.41 ERA 158 ERA+
Even though people won't want to believe it, we can probably expect all Smith, Giles, and Harris to show some improvement (I don't know how much). Very impressive bullpen numbers overall even though we mostly view it as our biggest potential weakness.
Going by all of the above, our biggest needs are a LFer, 1B and a reliever. Maybe Tucker is the guy for LF and maybe Gurriel shows more power for a 1B, but I don't know that we want to expect both to happen without making a move. Plus an addition would give us depth for an injury. We should expect an injury to the rotation as well, so adding a reliever lets McHugh or Peacock help out the rotation.
