Looking at how this guy has progressed over the past two years I would actually love to see him in an Astros uniform and NOT traded away so quickly. He plays LF/1B. Right now we have Yuli holding down first without any issues and of course Tucker would be in line for LF when that happens. But is there a place for him by next season?
Reddick is on the books for only $13 mil through 2020. I love having him on this team especially when he hits in Houston. Despite his downfall in last years playoffs the guy can produce. Springer of course is locked up through next year at $12 mil (arg in 2020) and I think he should also stay an Astros if we can make that work long term. Marwin would be the odd man out in that equation for the outfield spot. I know many here wouldn't have any issues with that, but again Tucker seems to be next in line.
Infield wise we have Correa arb elig for the next several years at ss, Bregman arg elig through 2022, Altuve locked up through 2024 and Yuli at a real good declining rate of only $8.4 mil in 2020
The only spot I see left open for grabs is catcher (and we still have McCann as a team option if he doesn't retire) with Stassi and Fed-X right behind him. Actually, looking at Gattis becoming a FA after this year we very well may have an opening at DH (assuming we are not going to want to pay him what other clubs probably will). He'd have to take a paycut to be on a championship caliber team.
Our team seemed poised to be locked with this great talent for the next 2-3 years easily.
Whether we keep Marwin for cheap or he bolts, I wonder if we can bring up both Tucker and Alvarez in 2019. I know we could trade him for a decent relief pitcher this year most likely, but at what future expense?
The guys I don't mind seeing traded are Fisher, Kemp, Reed, Taylor Jones, Randy Caesar (AA), JD Davis or Tyler White. But Alvarez and Tucker could be our future LF and DH/1B for many years to come. And if Springer or Reddick bolt after 2020 then we have it covered.
