That's two Quality Starts in a row by Astros pitchers

Gattis tends to struggle in forceout situations. He’s just not reliable.

Need a big hit by Gattis. We need the 32-homer Gattis back. We also need more productive at-bats from him with RISP.

It’s been three seasons of this unorthodox lumberjack swat approach, and it hasn’t impressed me. There’s a reason why Luhnow gave away his at-bats to Beltrán last season.

What we need is a real designated hitter. That sounds good, but how they have the roster constructed on versatility.

That sounds good, but how they have the roster constructed on versatility. It’s easy to dislike Marisnick, but he adds depth to the outfield and can hit lefties. The problem is the versatility you noted is hampered by Marwin being an everyday starter and not being able to come into a game when the need arises.

What is Bannister's problem, he whines on every close call.

So far the high light of the game tonight has been Breg's D.

Can someone explain to me how Altuve was safe at second before an airmailed throw and be put at third while Bregman goes to second?

Can someone explain to me how Altuve was safe at second before an airmailed throw and be put at third while Bregman goes to second? The explanation they gave from the booth was Jose did not reach second base before the bad throw by Odor. They said if he had second would have been awarded home.

1 for 9 with runners in scoring position today. A couple of timely hits might have changed the outcome of this one. STill waiting for that first 12+ hit game.

What we need is a real designated hitter. When it appeared that Gattis was going to be the main DH, I didn't like the idea. We had a chance to sign someone and didn't. On a night when your pitching is not very good and you get no hitting, you get a stinker of a game like tonight. If Keuchel continues to pitch as he did tonight, Boras can forget him signing a big deal. He may be glad to re-sign with Houston at a discount. He was lucky to Rangers didn't get six or seven runs off him instead of three

Maybe his subpar night was Dallas' way of protesting his not being the opening day starter.

Maybe his subpar night was Dallas' way of protesting his not being the opening day starter. These mediocre outings are becoming more and more commonplace for Keuchel. Double plays are nice and all, but he continues to have these long innings where he either can’t throw a strike or gets hit very hard. It’s becoming less and less justifiable to re-sign this guy to a competitive contract. He had a guy come to this team and just take over the ace role so you’d like him to try and keep up.

Melky Cabrera is still available....A veteran bat. At this point, I’d try anything over having to rely on Gattis.

Wasn’t he called safe before the errant throw? If Odor had held the bag, Jose would have been out. That is their explanation that Jose was not at second and could not come home on the ground rule.

Back when Gattis was traded to the Astros, many Braves fans were glad to see him go and they predicted he wouldn't last more than 2 years with the Astros. Here we are, what, into the 4th year (?) of the Astros' relationship with Gattis. I like the mountain man mystique he brings and all, but at best he's a 110 wRC+ hitter (i.e., 10% better than the average major league hitter) and a contending team should demand more from a DH. There's a substantial risk that his performance won't even rise to that level.
For 2/3 of last season, Gattis was hitting south of the league average. This season, I really think that any of Davis/Reed/White/Tucker (just to name the internal options) could out-hit Gattis as DH. And then as Thomas mentions, there are external options too like Melky C. Until recently, Duda was available.

Melky Cabrera is still available....A veteran bat. So is Bautista. I read articles that Bautista still wants to play, makes you wonder is it his demand on what he wants or is their any interest. Same thing for Cabrera.
