Altuve is supposed to hit well against Angels pitching........not this weekend. He has been awful. As much as Correa struggles, his absence reduces the protection of Altuve in the order. time for another springer dinger

Still, though, Altuve needs to be more selective and take healthier cuts as the 3-hitter. Maybe it’s time to give the role to Bregman. After Bregman had a great AB resulting in a 2-run double to get the team back in it, you had Altuve fly out on the very next pitch to end the rally. It’s getting old.

All I got to say today is that as ugly as this was, it still is only one "L" in the column.

Yeah, it’s time we saw the team wean themselves off these guys and bolster the bullpen. I mean it’s been three seasons with Harris and two with Devenski in which Hinch has leaned on in high leverage situations. They’ve been good, even great at times, but they still leave you with that unsure feeling. It’s kind of different now that middle relief has been more shaky than closing (due to the success of Rondón), which is usually the opposite occurrence for this team.

To some extent, everybody out there will disappoint you on a given day. But can you improve YOUR club at a cost which is less than you gain? There are no Mariano Rivera's out there. Even he disappointed a few times. But you certainly liked the odds when he was out there.
It's hard to get into a mindset that you have to find guys well above league average to improve your roster. We have internal candidates who are better than Trade candidates to replace the few underperforming players on the 25 man roster.
In the past, half our roster was below league average with internal replacements near the same level. But we're not there anymore.
Trading is only good if it's a good trade. And it's only a good trade when we get more value than we give up.

I’m wary of Zach Britton too, but this bullpen BARELY got by in the postseason. It’s foolhardy to trust these same relievers to right the ship in the postseason this year. They finally did the right thing in demoting Giles. They need to continue the progress by adding to the bullpen and leaning on guys like Harris and Devenski a little less. The Red Sox are trying to bolster a bullpen that has Kimbrel. I’m sure the Yankees are even with Chapman. The Astros don’t stand a chance holding a late inning lead if those teams add to their wealth.

I think he is going to have a breakout game very soon.
