Two games in a row now where the Astros SP begins with a walk.
At least Charlie managed to work a couple strikes in there.

White needs to learn bat control on the check-swing if he's gonna be successful at this level

White has gone on a minor strikeout tear by swinging at a lot of stuff outside the zone, which he wasn't doing when he was first called up. Maybe trying to check his swing on an outside pitch is a sign of improvement, I don't know. At least, improvement over a full swing. The next logical step should be to totally refrain from swinging at that pitch.

I'm trying to remember if I've seen him successfully check his swing at this levelI've seen it happen, but he didn't do it on that last AB. My sense of it is Tyler is trying to 'make things happen' by getting the big XBH or HR and therefore isn't as content as he was before to take a walk. However, I'd much rather see a walk than a strikeout. This whole season, patience at the plate has been the driver of his success. Now is not the time to change strategies.

I'm trying to remember if I've seen him successfully check his swing at this level I'm sure he's stressing knowing that his time is limited with Correa rehabbing. I think so too. In the back of his mind, he may be thinking that if he can just clobber a few more HRs then Hinch will be forced to keep him on the active roster (some way, somehow). But that kind of pressing is only likely to spike his K%.
