That was a great article and re-emphasizes the moral that numbers don’t tell you everything. You’ve got to use your eyes and see what a player is all about. It failed when it came to Martinez, but it paid off last season when they aggressively pursued Verlander instead of a guy with better stats like Darvish.
Luhnow isn’t perfect, but he’s closer than most GM’s in baseball.

What was frustrating with JD is that, while he struggled in his final year with us, he put up respectable numbers for his first season's worth of games:
17 HR 88 RBI 62 Runs 27 Doubles .252 AVG .705 OPS (92 OPS+)
His defense wasn't good, but if you offered me a rookie with those above numbers (and he hit .322 with RISP as a rookie) on a rebuilding team, I'd be very pleased. They gave up on him way too fast for a guy that crushed it in the minors. (.328/.389/.542)
For as good as we do growing/improving pitchers, we're the opposite when it comes to growing/improving hitters. We've had a number of prospects that killed it in the minors and never got it going here, or else got it going elsewhere. Villar is another one. Look at his season after we traded him for garbage: 19 HR 63 SB .826 OPS

The problem was, he was doing it when the team desperately needed someone...anyone...to perform better than those pedestrian numbers. If we'd been a winning team back then, he'd have been given more time to get right.

This was what I was referring too with Springer. Everyone jumps on board saying now 15KT wants to trade him. It is plain as day to me that something is missing in their approach to Players and Hitting compared to Pitching.

It pleases me to see that you've accepted your nickname, 15KT. <3 When did 15KT become the new ivan bahamon? It was so gradual I didn't notice

It seemed a little too much like cleaning house just to show people they’re taking some sort of hard line against losing.

I thought he was playing hurt that final season. At the time it happened I couldn’t believe they just released him. Still hard to believe.

I just checked JD’s transactions on his player page. That final season with Houston he went on the 15-day DL with a sprained knee in April and in July he went on the 15-day DL with a sprained wrist. He was likely hampered by these injuries much of his final season with Houston.
