Currently at:
200-122 3.41 ERA (125 ERA+) 2639 Strikeouts 1.168 WHIP 61.5 WAR
Before he becomes a free agent after next season (if healthy) he is on pace for:
217-132 2900 Strikeouts 67 WAR
*ROY *MVP *CY (including 5 top-5 finishes so far) * 7x AS *ALCS MVP *WS
Before you jump to your response, some players who are not in the HoF with similar numbers:
Curt Schilling: 216-146 3.46 ERA (127 ERA+) 6x AS WS MVP 79.6 WAR Mike Mussina: 270-153 3.68 ERA (123 ERA+) 5x AS 7x GG 83 WAR Kevin Brown: 211-144 3.28 ERA (127 ERA+) 6x AS Tommy John: 288-231 3.34 ERA (111 ERA+) 4x AS Bob Welch: 211-146 3.47 ERA (106 ERA+) 1x CY 2x AS 43.8 WAR
Honorable mentions: David Cone, Jimmy Key, Orel Hershiser
If he stays healthy, he should have another couple of solid-good years in him after he becomes a free agent, but nothing is a given in baseball.

I believe he already is HOF worthy, but I think a few more years in the league will only solidify that more.

Schilling and Mussina not being in yet, and Brown not even a candidate anymore is the only reason I ask. I thought surely Schilling would be in by now.

At some point there will have to be a decline in innings/starts though.

I heard Kalas say last night that JV wants to try to play for 10 more years.

His good mechanics can keep him plugging, how he can still hit 97 or 98 late in games is ridiculous.

I heard Kalas say last night that JV wants to try to play for 10 more years. Unfortunately teams are getting tighter on keeping older players around if their performance isn't good. I think JV is too much of a competitor to want to keep going if he becomes only an average or below average starter. Something that would be interesting to see with him as he ages, is could he still gas it up for an inning or two and maybe a late inning reliever. That could likely give him a few more seasons when/if he starts to show decline.

He seems like a guy that could pitch well in his late-30's, but I can't imagine he'll want to try and hang around like Colon.

I voted “maybe”. You just never know from which side of the bed the voters will end up waking up.

Yeah, even Nolan knew when to call it quits. LOL no he didn’t. Sure he did. He retired after he finally had the worst season of his career.

I also think it’s a joke that Mussina hasn’t been inducted yet.

I also think it’s a joke that Mussina hasn’t been inducted yet. How Kevin Brown didn't get enough votes to even make it past one year on the ballot is amazing. Of course, this is the same guy that didn't win the CY despite have an ERA under 2.00 and winning 17 games.

I also think it’s a joke that Mussina hasn’t been inducted yet. Probably one of his best seasons was his last, Moose is a player that quit on his own terms. Now he has turned into a good basketball coach for a high school outside Williamsport.

Sure he did. He retired after he finally had the worst season of his career. Well, I guess he and Pete Rose stayed productive even though they probably should’ve retired a couple years prior. They’re kind of anomalies.

Not in so many words but it really starting happing before Trump but his support of Trump cost him a job and other stuff.

Yeah, even Nolan knew when to call it quits. LOL no he didn’t. He was thinking real hard about retiring on his 50th birthday. If Justin can keep up the 200 strikeout pace, which he should, for another 5 years he will be an automatic with 3000ks.
