80-50 1.5 games ahead of Oakland for the division 9 games behind Boston for overall 1st in run differential at +214 Team OPS+: 112 Team ERA+: 127
Top-5 WAR Players:
1. Bregman 5.7 2. Altuve 4.6 3. Verlander 4.5 4. Cole 4.1 5. Morton 2.8
5-0 since Altuve returned, and things are starting to take shape better. The relievers and Hinch seemed to have established their roles better. The offense is greatly picking up. We're mostly healthy again, and rosters expand soon if we need some fresh bodies.
Big big big series right now with Oakland. Again, I feel like we need to take at least 2 out of 3, and really we need to find our mojo at home and sweep them. We have the potential to virtually clinch the division this week if we stay hot.

After this series we play 20 of our final 29 games against sub 500 teams. The A's will play 13 of their final 28 games are against playoff teams after our series. Of their next 10 games all of them are against us, the Yankees or the Mariners. Next 10 days will tell the tell on the Mariners. Lots of pressure on them.
If we win two of three my expecation is that we will find ourselves 5 games up with 18 games left to go. That would be a pretty tough lead to overcome. They pretty much have to sweep us to have a chance. We need to put that thought to bed tonight. Jump on them early and keep our foot on the gas for the next 72 hours.

This is how our boys should prepare for the A’s.

I think even if we lose this series, we're still in it. There's lots of baseball to be played

Springer Bregman Altuve Correa Gonzalez White Gattis Reddick Maldonado
I know Springer, Correa, Marwin, and Reddick are all down from last year (and Springer shouldn't be leading off), but that's still a good looking lineup to me.

Astros will not lose this series. Oakland has not lost a series in forever, it seems. Astros are on a roll...coming home to turn around a dismal home record lately.
We take at least 2 of 3. Oakland’s starting staff is exposed this series.

Rotoworld states Yuli is only hitting .215 after the ASB. No mention of injury. I like Yuli at first base better then White. Maybe a day off would help him but he seemed to hit well in Anaheim.

But where’s Yuli? This is no time to be getting a day off for rest. Eh, I've never been a big fan of Gurriel. He was overpaid out of our desperation for a 1B that could hit, and he has been mediocre the majority of the time. He had a good 2017 season, but if he isn't hitting at or over .300, the rest of his numbers are just....meh. (And even hitting .300 doesn't put his numbers up at a super high level the way it does with most players...) If Gattis is on a hot streak and White is hitting, we don't really need Gurriel. What Gurriel has in his favor is that he is a good contact hitter that does have good value with RISP situations since he makes a lot of contact. Where as Gattis can get you more bang for the buck from an overall production standpoint if he's hot. But when Gattis isn't hot...he's awful. When Gattis runs hot he's super hot...but when he runs cold he's freezing. Gurriel is a little more consistent overall.

Saying that it is good to have a guyplaying first who consistently delivers you a 715 ops but hits well with runners on is like saying that you are proud of your kid bringing home a D+ in math and he does well on his homework.

As well as we were doing with Bregman there, it makes no sense to change it. Also,White should be the DH with Yuli at 1B. Maybe Hinch's chsrts told him Gattis hits Anderson. Correa in the cleanup spot was predictable but also makes no sense as horrible as he looks at the plate. I think Kemp will see a lot of bench time if Marwin keeps hitting.

Ah yes. Springer..., he of the .331 OBP in his last 30 games.., the .310 OBP in his last 15 games and the .308 OBP in his last 7 games is batting first. Will wonders never cease? I’ve gotta tell ya...I am shocked by this development.

If Springer had not been injured, Hinch would have kept him leading off no matter what his OBP happened to be.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Doesn’t apply to AJ and Springer.

Hinch is really being stubborn about this Springer and Correa places in the batting order. You would think they would have the mindset to award Hinch with that loyalty. How long before Hinch realizes that maybe it isn't their year for that spot and moves them around for a few games to say Nothing is guaranteed in Baseball you have to keep earning every game.

After Correa has been home with his hoochie mama, he may not be able to drag out to the field. If they don't show up and play for this series and they get booed, they asked for it

It’s been 50 games (28-22) since the lineup had Altuve, Correa, and Springer in it.

Typical Springer. Fouls pitches off to the right side and then K’s.

That right there is the difference: fouling pitches and dragging out AB’s.

That inning looked familiar......springer leads off with a K, Bregman gets a hit, Altuve reaches for a ball out of the zone and kills the inning with a DP to SS.
Hinch should not have taken Bregman out of the leadoff spot.
