Are we regretting not signing Liriano to an extension last year or what?

This looks like an inning where the Astros could put up a crooked number.

That was brutal Correa.

I almost started to think Correa was playing for the Tigers. Liriano was practically begging to walk him.

Verlander seems to be getting it together...........Correa continues to be a clueless dumbass...........second time he has struck out on the pitch in the dirt. I am glad to hear Blum keep saying how many center cut fastballs Correa takes. No excuse for a major league player.....especially one with that much talent....being that dumb.

Are we regretting not signing Liriano to an extension last year or what? I think it's more trying to rush to the end of the game by swinging at everything so everyone can go to bed. We have gotten some walks though

I didn't get a chance to turn on the game until the 4th inning.
I read in the recap that the Tigers got their run "on a ball hit to second base, deflected by first baseman Tyler White."
How in the world does the first baseman deflect a ball hit to second base?

I can see how Correa might be playing with a nagging injury, stiff joints, etc. that might throw his swing off at times.
However this whole business of swinging at balls in the dirt is about poor pitch selection, not swinging mechanics.

For a guy who can hardly find the strike zone, Liriano owes a big debt of gratitude to certain Astros hitters for that 'quality start'.

I think his back is still bothering him and that's part of it. I think Hinch's pursuit in 2016 trying to get guys to draw more walks is part of it. It's like Correa's all mixed up in his head and doesn't look comfortable with his own plate approach whatever it is at the moment. But like I said I have a hunch batting him 1st in the order would bring him back

Altuve absolutely smoked that ball in the 3rd inning when he reached on that error.
I wish that hitters got some sort of credit for reaching on an error. The way the scoring works today, batting avg actually goes down when a hitter reaches on an error. However so often times, hitters do things that help create the misplay by the defense, such as hitting the ball so hard the defender can't make a clean play.
One solution would be to simply not charge the hitter with an AB but credit them with reaching base. So OBP goes up (and OPS with it) but not AVG.
Another solution might be to credit the hitter with half a hit. So if the hitter gets a single and reaches on an error in a game, he earns 1.5 hits on the night.

Between Correa's funk and Altuve's injuries, I have to wonder if Luhnow should have pursued Machado harder.
