I agree that they were unlucky, or even cursed. For whatever reason, the BBG's decreed that the Astros would go no further. Pitches that could have been called strikes that weren't; a poor umpiring crew, lead by Joe West (whose eagle-eyed vision could detect interference from 50 yards away at an oblique angle); line drives that found gloves; injuries that affect play;
Altuve's HR that wasn't; Bregman barely missing a 3-run HR in game two, plus his hit that was caught by Benintendi (if he had been standing one step further away it was either a tie or win); the HR by Devers that would have been an out if it had been hit 5 feet to the left. At this stage of the season, sometimes the difference between teams is razor thin. If they aren't called fairly or some of the breaks don't go your way (AND THEY DIDN'T), you go home and wait until next Spring. The best team in baseball will be watching the WS this year.

A little of both. I'm really mad at Bregman, Maldy and Osuna despite the favorable commentary about us in that piece. I think they went into the series with amateur attitudes and derailed the

Giles choked in Game 4 of last year’s ALCS, but he’d never pitched on that stage before. Osuna has and pitched effectively in his appearances. But he decided to toss like an amateur last week
so his battery mate wouldn’t feel left out

Osuna had that horrible outing mainly due to Hinch not giving him any work when he needed it. Maldonado was just plain bad for some reason. I still support Osuna and expect him to be a reliable closer for us. Saint will probably have multiple orgasms when he knows Maldonado won't be back,but, will piss on himself when Stassi is sent packing, too. My internet service was out four days due to the incompetence of AT&T. Customer service isn't what it used to be. |
