On the surface it does seem strange that you let a 15-3 pitcher walk without an effort to sign.
Maybe Luhnow thinks Whitley is MLB ready. If so, that's a huge gamble.

I usually agree with Luhnow and support most of his moves, but, if he fails to try to re-sign Morton, I will lose confidence in him. You don't simply allow a pitcher who has contributed what Charlie has to this team just walk away. This looks like the Astros are firing him.

I still think they didn't offer him a QO because they're working on a contract. Hopefully, anyway.

Or it is because of his shoulder....Luhnow seems to detect early a pitcher high probability of a major injury....Remember Aiken...Morton has history of injuries and his shoulder issue has Luhnow thinking it is a bad investment.... I really like Morton, but I trust Luhnow.

Saying this assuming there's an injury concern with Morton, his career reminds me of Kazmir's a little bit. In that the A's were fortunate to get a healthy Kazmir whenever he had a stint with them while he was injured everywhere else. That's kind of like Morton being an Astro

If it is for the betterment of the team and the careers they should consider it....both the team and the respective players.

The number of innings for starters declines every year. Houston’s offense is based upon getting the other guys starter a lot of pitches and then feasting on the bullpen. Too bad Houston showed Boston the trick to fixing that last year and then we had the misfortune of having it used on us this year.
