He announced his retirement today. As a catcher, he was one of the best ever during his peak. Unfortunately his peak was relatively short.
And while he had some decent seasons as a 1B, they certainly weren't HoF-worthy seasons.
Still, an MVP, 6 AS appearances, 3 batting titles, 3 GGs, and 2000+ Hits and .300+ AVG say a lot.

His hair definitely deserves to be in. It’s flake free and head and shoulders above the competition.

Yeah, certainly not first ballot. I think he compares favorably to some other HoF catchers. Not Pudge or Yogi, but Gary Carter? Sure.
Course, I think Ted Simmons and Torre should be too...

If he only played catcher for more seasons, I’d have said an easy yes to his chances.

I am getting old. I remember the day he signed his big contract. I was heading home from work and they were talking about it on the radio. Class Act.

How Torre didn't make the HoF as a player is crazy.

I have no problem with Mauer going into the HOF, but, I think Torre and Ted Simmons should be in, too.
