Just because I didn't feel like posting a new thread for it. All three of Verlander's 2nd place CY finishes have ties to Tampa Bay:
"It’s not the first time Upton has dropped a hot take after a Cy Young vote. In 2016, she had a profane response to Verlander narrowly losing the award to Boston Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello.
Turns out, Tampa Bay was to blame for that loss as well. The two BBWAA writers from Tampa Bay were the only two voters to leave Verlander completely off their ballots in 2016.
With the loss, Verlander has now finished second in the Cy Young voting three times in his career. The other year he finished second, 2012, he lost to David Price of … you guessed it … the Tampa Bay Rays. Verlander did manage to take home the award in 2011, though.
The 35-year-old Verlander has one year and a team option on his current deal with the Astros. If he decides he wants to keep playing once he hits the free-agent market, we imagine Upton will cross Tampa Bay off his list."
