In 1993, the Giants missed the playoffs at 103 wins. To be a champion you have to beat the best. So let's beat the A's the Rays, the Twins, the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Braves or whoever else stands in our way. Although, God bless the Yankees for beating the Indians in 2017. They were a really tough team.

Having said that the biggest smear on his image as far as I am concerned was when he said he was glad that we did not have to face the Cardinals in the playoffs. That showed weakness, no one should scare you or make you run. No, to be the best you have to beat the best.

Saw an interesting article that maybe for the first time in history a 96 win team won't make the playoffs. (A's, Rays, Indians all vying for 2 WC spots and playing near .600 baseball) Wouldn't that suck as a fan?......... That's why I don't buy that "It's only April, these losses won't hurt us" attitude.

I agree with you. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched games and have seen some dumb play or dumb managerial/coaching decision cost a team a game and thought to myself, “That dumb move could come back to haunt them, if they miss the playoffs by one game.” Seems like there were several of those during our 2016 season.

I remember sitting at home watching the Cubs celebrate at Jacobs Field three years ago wondering if that would ever be my ‘Stros doing the same thing someday. I’m glad it finally happened.

Luckily the Astros are so talented, both hitting and pitching wise, that all of their base running gaffs this year have not cost them a playoff chance this season.

In 1993, the Giants missed the playoffs at 103 wins. I reckon the 'History' Catfish is citing is limited to the 3 Division per league + WC era. 1993 was just an East -vs- West championship for each league, then the WS. Saw an interesting article that maybe for the first time in history a 96 win team won't make the playoffs. (A's, Rays, Indians all vying for 2 WC spots and playing near .600 baseball) Wouldn't that suck as a fan?......... It always sucks if your team doesn't go to the postseason. But yeah, having a near-600 record and not getting into the postseason is a hard pill to swallow. In 2012 the Rays and Angels didn't even get to play for a WC spot, yet they had better records than the Tigers who got to bypass the WC and go straight to the Divisional Series because they won the AL Central. That was a real pisser for those teams. But as they say ... (sh)it happens.

Felipe Vasquez from the Pirates arrested for soliciting a minor. What is it with closers now-a-days going mental?

If I understand it right, any Astros win or Rays loss or Indians loss clinches a post season birth. We would also have to lose a play-in game at this point So you could say we've clinched a play-in game for the playoffs.
I we win and the A's lose we can clinch a division tie today.

Yup, win and you’re in for the Astros. It shouldn’t be difficult with Cole on the mound. If he gets a loss or no-decision, he doesn’t make it to 20 wins and thus probably the chances for the CYA.

I think some of the BBWAA members are still of the mindset that wins attributed to a pitcher are important. But I hope more of them see the folly in that, as time goes on. For me, ERA, WHIP, IP/GS, and other stats mean so much more.

Plus, pretty much all of the heavy favorites this year in the NL have low Win totals. We'll see.

He made $3.9 million this year and about all a guy has to do to get a raise in arbitration is to make it through the season without ending up in the obituaries. I could see him being non-tendered.

As with Correa, what’s the point in paying Sánchez the big bucks if he’s always on the shelf?

I think the Astros will convince Sanchez to do a two year deal with next year paying him very little and a deal for 2021 with lots of incentives. Along with this would come a commitment to work with him on becoming the guy everyone thought he would be. That will be the hook.
