One thing I've noticed is that these hitters who have concentrated on going oppo are maintaining really high BABIPs. Usually you can't get away with a BABIP over .310 for very long, but if you perfect the oppo approach, you can approach .400 and just stay there.

Machado's OPS is in the .740s and poor Eric Hosmer can't get past the .630s.
Serves Hosmer right for what he did to the Astros in 2015.

Just like that, the Astros have tied Minnesota for MLB's highest team batting avg at .277.
Astros are 2nd in MLB in team OPS at .844, trailing the Mariners by a few points... at least until the Padres get done with them.

Did you see the play Hedges made on Smith? That catcher is a ninja. I missed it. Will have to catch it on highlights. Just looking at the NL West... early on, the Padres are playing nearly .500 ball. If they are much below .500 at the ASB, maybe they would consider trading Craig Stammen to the Astros. He'd do much to fortify the bullpen down the stretch. |

This is one of those times when I hate the scoring rules. Rondon was our least effective pitcher........blows the save and gets the win. Should never happen
