If Jake were placed on waivers, probably some team would pick him up. The Tigers, Rockies, White Sox, and Marlins are some teams with especially poor outfielders right now and Jake might actually be an improvement for them.
Drew Ferguson (who had a really good year at A+ Lancaster in 2016 but then a down year last year as he bounced around) might be emerging as someone who could challenge Jake and Fisher for their outfield jobs.

Then of course there's Tucker too, but Fisher might need a minors stint as well. So perhaps Tucker and Ferguson get a shot if Fisher and Marisnick can't hack it.

I am pretty sure that if they have not found their stroke by mid may there will be some dl stints and AAA call ups for the flavor of the month. Tucker though is next in line for an extended trip up in my mind anyway.

I liked Preston. He was like Fisher 0.0 when he was up with us. Although it seemed every time we stuck a glove on him he forget something at the plate Every season it seems like Preston does good for the first 30 days and horrible the next 30, so we'll see where that stands come Memorial Day

Back in our dark ages I really thought that Preston was going to be great. I hope he does well as he seems like a good guy. Plus he is in the national league

precisely. If I were a baseball team owner, I'd put that right in the contract. "This contract may be terminated by the team if the player lollygags". Exactly.... and making sure you wear women's underwear correctly....

If Kyle Tucker proves to be ready and sticks with the Astros after he is called up in mid-May, and if Fisher has started to produce by the time Tucker arrives, it will be interesting to see what they do with Jake vs Fisher.

Yes. Jake can still be optioned to the minor leagues. He has 2 options left. The difference now, with his accumulated years in pro ball, is that he has the right to refuse the option and become a free agent, rather than reporting to the minor league team. So contractually it can happen. OH, that sounds like a wonderful outcome. Make it so, Number 1.

In practice, I bet Marisnick would refuse the minor league assignment. But I guess we can't be sure. Marisnick is a relic of past needs. Back in 2015, the Astros needed him to be the starting CF because he was the best option. He hasn’t been that in years, yet he still hangs around for some reason. I don’t care if Hudgens thinks Jake is about to break out or whatever. He’s had three years to show what he’s made of and has not been that star player everyone hoped he’d become. Quite frankly, he’s simply wasting a roster spot that could go to someone more deserving. I just wish someone in the minors would heat up and wrestle it from him. Who thought he would be a star player? He’s always been a 4th OFer, and he was very good last year. That being said, he doesn’t need to be starting this often.

I thought he had the potential to be a .270 hitter, but I was off. For me, that would’ve made him one of the stars on this team. He fooled everyone with that hot start he had in the first month or so of 2015, but never came close to it again. Right now, he should maybe be a pinch runner and defensive replacement at best. His bat is one of the many sieves of this offense. What he showed last year was that he could pop a few homers here and there and do well mostly against lefties. He is a replaceable player, though, but he’s here because he’s inexpensive help. It’s not because he’s some immense talent who needs to play.
