This crap of players pretending to toss a ball to a fan and then keeping the ball or tossing it to someone else on the field is low class and disrespectful of those who buy tickets to help pay their inflated salaries. Most of these fans work hard for the money they spend on tickets and merchandise. For these players to do this classless stuff is a disgraceful. It is not as bad as NFL players taking a knee during the anthem but it should not be tolerated. The club officials of the players' team should step in and stop it. If the club won't, then, the commissioner needs to have the guts to fine the player for the first offense and suspend him without pay if it is repeated. Joey Votto is the first guy I saw do it and now it has happened twice today during the Mets-Brewers game on mlb network. This is total BS disrespects the fans, and should not be tolerated.

BY the way, the MLB page on Facebook recently posted a video of Votto doing it, promoting it as some kind of "cool" thing he was doing. So I wouldn't expect MLB to intervene to try to stop it.

Votto is a jerk as is Bryce Harper who did the same thing. No excuse for this. Fans bought the ticket and have a right to "heckle" within certain boundaries. Directing insults at players families is over the line.

I think you should email Joey Votto, and tell him how much you dislike him and his actions... That'll show him! While you are at it, email the Reds, MLB and every major media outlet. Make this story the biggest story in baseball...

I think it’s hilarious. The same people who get mad at opposing players being friendly with each other shouldn’t be upset about this.
WE’RE NOT HERE TO CLOWN AROUND.

If you decide to behave on this board like you did the last one, nobody will have to block you. I find it funny that you have decided to ignore why I did what I did on the other board... That's okay though... You were actually on my side, until I started fighting back... I guess I should just let someone walk all over me, so the rest of you can have peace on the board...

If you decide to behave on this board like you did the last one, nobody will have to block you. If a similar situation occurs on this board... the person who starts it will be long gone before I even try to respond... If the moderators do their job...

Directing insults at players families is over the line. There is definitely a line between permissible 'heckling' and classless behavior by fans... So somebody who might have yelled "Butter fingers" at Jurickson Profar yesterday is OK in my book as they're making a profanity-less jest at a player's inability to do something he ought to have been able to do... But fans who have, for example, thrown baseballs, beer bottles, etc. at players on the field are just out of line and might even be committing a crime if their projectile finds its target. Like how in one of the early 80s playoff games, the umpiring crew in Los Angeles had to stop the game a couple times because people were throwing things at Jose Cruz in LF. No bueno.

When you find out his email address, you can send congratulations and let him know he has at least one person supporting him. Maybe he will thank you in his next on-camera interview. Be sure and give him your real name so he can properly credit you.

I agree. Buying a ticket doesn't entitle you to a souvenir. People think they're entitled to too much these days thanks to the Democrats

Someone said that the player in question was being heckled by the fans. If the player chooses to respond by pretending to toss the ball and not doing it, I say that's fair game. The hecklers deserve it. If the player is just doing it to be a dick, then yeah, dick move.

If the player is just doing it to be a dick, then yeah, dick move. that may be true in some cases, but, I doubt it was warranted in all cases. There should be a line the fans do not cross if they heckle a player. I remember a story about Lou Piniella when he played for the Yankees and was in a slump. This one particular fan always sat behind the Yankees dugout and rode Piniella about his hitting. One day, Lou got sick of it and turned to the fan, looked him in the eye. and said , "If you would keep your wife out of my bed at night, I'd have more strength and would hit better".

Who cares? I don't go to beg for free balls (although it works if you make them laugh during batting practice); I go to watch the game. Personally, building rivalries with opposing players and teams makes it all more lively. Heckling and fake ball tossing is hilarious to me.

I go to a lot of minor league games where your chances of getting a baseball are greater than a MLB game. People will kill themselves over a dam baseball, it is ridiculous. If you want a baseball that bad go to the souvenir shop.

I don't care about getting free balls. My point is that it is totally classless for players to pretend to toss a ball to the fans and then fail to do so. As for heckling, most of the time I doubt if a player knows exactly who is doing the heckling. But, if a fan gets personal with his heckling, this is unacceptable.

"Totally classless" seems pretty dramatic. Fans mess with opposing players; players mess with opposing fans. It's all good as long as players' families aren't getting harassed or threatened (and nobody is getting hurt). If being faked out of getting a ball bothers a fan, he probably needs to unwad his panties.
