We had a team ERA+ of 120 before yesterday. One of the best in baseball. Unfortunately, a few of our pitchers were playing over their head earlier in the season. There was going to be some balancing out. The positive aspect is that while we weren't as great as we showed before, we're also not as bad as we're showing right now. It will level out. We still need some help, but it's not dire. Don't let a bad couple weeks make you rush to judgement. This poor month hasn't all been about the pitching. We're going into the 2nd half with at least a 4.5 game lead despite significant missed time with three of our top players. The offense was bound to struggle, but it’s still been one that has been centered on home runs and walks, which makes Bregman look faultless when the team struggles. However, like you’ve said, they’ve had their injuries. The pitching has not. They need to fix it before we start hearing things like oh, they’re only a game back, two games back, etc. Entering today, Peacock was our 4th best starter with a 3.62 ERA (122 ERA+). That's a fantastic starting 1-4. We just haven't had someone settle in and be a respectable 5th starter.

Goodness. Nothing going our way. Todd, your boy Stassi should be pinch hit for in any late RBI situation. He’s terrible.

Nine hits and no runs? Are they playing in the Astrodome?

Well, it wasn't a horrible first appearance for Sneed. It certainly wasn't good, but at least he saved the bullpen. I still don't think he has any kind of future but 4 ERs in 6 IP is better than I was hoping.

Two more starting pitchers looks like a necessity instead of a luxury.......Peacock is too inconsistent.

I guess the good news is we're not paying anyone $1.1M a week to play nine games and be in the infirmary the rest of the time

We get runners on fine; our approach with runners on base is awful. We're not aggressive on the basepaths at all. We don't take anything the opposite way outside of Brantley and Reddick. We don't try to advance runners.
We're too good a team to go on such brutal low offensive streaks. We're not going to win every time, but we shouldn't get embarrassed like this so often. We should be able to manufacture a couple of runs consistently.
I believe they'll get things turned around, but it will take some effort. It won't happen without work.

Hinch loves to gripe about pitch selection so there's plenty of that at the moment I'd assume

It’s not the losing that’s terrible, it’s the approach and frequent wind out of your sails blowouts. For a team with such a good record, they look non-competitive at times.

Trying to look on the bright side though, we have a very winnable series against Seattle coming up and the Rangers have to head to Tampa. If we can right the ship we can regain a game or two of our lead pretty quick before America's birthday.
