I immediately thought of Daryl Kile when I read this news. In this age of ultra high tech cardiovascular testing, it seems strange that a coronary artery blockage would have gotten by the Angel's team medical staff. We'll just have to wait for the autopsy. Still incredibly sad for his family and new wife. |

I was watching an old Sportscentury on Gene Mauch, and a teammate of Donnie Moore got choked up talking about how Angels fans would boo him after that ‘86 ALCS. It was a shame he spiraled into depression afterwards and eventually to his attempted murder and suicide. |

Still incredibly sad for his family and new wife. Doesn't have to be a thrombus. Arterial spasm can cause an MI in the absence of heart disease. Pending autopsy, my guess is electrical conduction disturbance, and all sorts of things can precipitate that. In any event, you don't find too many 27-year-olds, particularly pro athletes, who have the need for a Cathy. |
