PISS ON DALLAS KEUCHEL......he over-valued himself. He wanted too much money to throw BP.

To be fair I can see how he felt the Astros did him wrong on just giving him a QA. But he didn't earn anything more than that. His injuries and lackluster performance (in a contract year) suggested he was not a long term solution. Come to think of it loyalty is probably the reason they offered him the QA in the first place and not Morton. If it was given to Morton then we'd either have him for another year or a draft pick. And if no team picked him up (like they did Keuchel) then we most certainly would have tried to make him another one year offer before June.
Many were not happy with Keuchel over the last 2+ years as he seemed to lack confidence in his outings at times. It was up to him to perform during a contract year and he didn't.

I think Keuchel shouldn't be upset, well maybe with himself. He passed on a 5-year / 90 million dollar offer years prior. By the time when he was a pending free agent, the Astros didn't want to be tied to him for five more years. He was showing injuries, he was declining. And for a very analytical team that doesn't match very well. They were only willing to do a qualifying offer. To Keuchel: it's Mirror Time

To Keuchel: it's Mirror Time IIRC that contract was offered after he won the Cy Young in 2015. He could have made $90 million through next year. Instead, he made 7.25, 9.125, 13.2 and 13.2 again this year (total of 42.775) when he could have made $72 million thus far (with another $18m coming next year). So, he cost himself about $30m. If anything, he was overvalued by the Astros.

Let's see Kegel's stats so far......
3-4, 3.86 era, 1.25 WHIP.
Let the masses determine whether this kind of performance merits $13M for a half year of pitching to date.
I think the Braves overpaid.

If anything, he was overvalued by the Astros. The flip side to that is if he stayed healthy he would have easily made that $90 mil. But unfortunately he didn't factor in his age when he finally became a free agent. I think the Arrieta and Darvish's contract along with having Boras as his agent made him see more dollar signs then he was capable of getting. Which in turn worked out better for the Astros because now we have Greinke and Miley.

Final vote on that won't be determined until the postseason (cost of resting their bullpen is under valued as he is a quality starter)

Yeah, he needs to get over it. His 2018 season was pretty mediocre and not how you capitalize on a contract year. He can blame the CBA all he wants, but I am pretty sure Gerrit Cole won't have a shortage of suitors and dollars offered. Let's see how DK does in his next go round.

He’s a Jekyll and Hyde type player, so I think what he was offered from us and the Braves was fair. He definitely wasn’t worth more.

He was holding onto the CYA too much in his thinking. That’s not who he is anymore. A guy who you can’t definitively say will get you a quality start is not an ace, and he wanted more ace-like money.

The Braves are in that danger of cashing out too much for the present. They gave away a top prospect in Kolby Allard for Chris Martin of the Rangers. They paid big money for Dallas Keuchel, who gets free outs when pitchers bat. They’re paying Josh Donaldson a lot of money. Luhnow may have given up a good amount for Greinke, but he’s got him for two more years. Anthopoulos is kind of doing the Braves a disservice.

PISS ON DALLAS KEUCHEL......he over-valued himself. He wanted too much money to throw BP. He's really not a bad pitcher. But he's not an elite pitcher either. He had one aberrant elite season and mid rotation numbers the rest of the time. That value is about $10M-$15M right now. He was not undervalued by the Astros, he was PROPERLY valued by them.
He just listened to Stupid Talk from his Agent.

Would be interesting to calculate how much Bora$$ has cost Kegel. I'd venture of wager a lifetime of $10s of Millions.

If the ump gave him pitches off the plate,. he was excellent. When he had to come into the zone, he got hammered. After 2016, he got worse each year and we are well rid of him Maybe he can get his naked ass exposed in a photo while he is a Brave.

Keuchel has not rebounded to top form since umpires started cracking down on him. He likes to still think of himself as some mistreated ace victimized by the qualifying offer, but the fact is he’s a middle of the rotation caliber pitcher right now.

Bad day for Keuchel right now. 1st inning gave up two HRs (back to back) to the Marlins. Already down 3-0

And I know this is a Keuchel thread but Fisher has had back to back games with a HR now. Good for him
