As baseball fans, we all love stats. I am old school though and used to looking at ERA, Batting Average, etc.
Where can I find a website with advanced metrics on teams?
Example: I read an article which talked about the 'slash' rate of the Dodgers. They are hitting .305 against pitches 95 mph or higher. The same article said the Astros are among the leagues worst. They talked about how this might affect both teams in the play offs.
Example: Our bullpen. Analysts always brag about our bullpen. Is there a website that breaks down the stats of our starters and the bullpen?
I have been watching the game for 40 years and I feel like this is really noobish question but I'd like some help if possible.

Look above on the bar. Fangraphs and www.baseball-reference.com are great for some of the weirder stats. You can also go to mlb.com and look at some of Statcast stuff they have.

Thanks, Will do. The game has evolved and so have the stats. It's interesting to learn how the game is analyzed now.

Hey, astrosfan34Now that you've started posting fairly regularly, feel free to change your avatar to a custom one so that people won't get you confused with run-of-the-mill t-ballers.

Thanks, Will do. The game has evolved and so have the stats. It's interesting to learn how the game is analyzed now. A lot of the newer stats are interesting, and I think it's great that they're trying to do a better job of quantifying value, but the "old" stats still have a lot of value, in my opinion. Batting Average may be overrated now, but nothing changes the fact that a guy with a high AVG is going to mostly have pretty good everything else. (OBP, etc.)

I don't have any problems with any of the stats, old or new. What always drove me crazy was when people find one stat that they like and then harp on it to the exclusion of common sense. Example: Ashitaka and BABIP. He flat out said he'd rather a hitter draw a walk than get a hit.

With the plethora of stats in baseball now, (half worthless), I bet the Sporting News must be a 100 page periodical now.

My faith in stats have wavered since they talked up what a great defender Carlos Gomez was. His very first game with us he dropped a ball that eventually led to a loss. The man read fly balls like a chihuahua reads a tossed frisbee.
The eye test is important too.

(OBP, etc.) Stats are only useful in so far as the context they're applied when comparing players, teams, seasons, road trips etc. I think batting average is most useful in HOF consideration, and how impressive someone's hitting streak is if they're on one
