There is a lot to like about the guy. I like that he started out in our farm system as a C/3B and has 129 innings experience at catcher in the pros. He should be able to handle the emergency catcher role, if needed at some point in the future. Ok Bortaz. I will take my posts about our minor leaguers to Ol Papas Farm Report thread...., but I’m taking this other stuff with me! Don't forget your dog named Shithead.

True. It was always “big dummy,” but the idea came from Sanford and Son. Too bad they don't make shows like that anymore... I watched a ton of Sanford & Son on Youtube the other day, at work. It was great.

Fred had the quickest wit of anyone I've ever seen. I've read that a lot of his insults to Esther were completely unscripted improvisation.

I've read that a lot of his insults to Esther were completely unscripted improvisation. That show along with All in the Family were hilarious. I didn't know that a lot of Fred's comments were unscripted but he was hilarious and so was Esther. The funniest episodes were when Esther was on.

My favorite exchange between Fred and Aunt Esther: Aunt Esther: “Fred Sanford! Few people remember that there was a new series starring Redd Foxx and Della Reese called “The Royal Family” that Redd Foxx was working on when he died. He was actually rehearsing for the show when he keeled over with a heart attack. The other cast members at the rehearsal thought he was kidding around at first like he did in many episodes of Sanford and Son. Only a few episodes of Royal Family were aired before he died. He and Della Reese were great working together. The Royal Family was going to be successful, I believe.
