When rosters expand in a few days I would call up Stubbs and Tucker. Stubbs could catch some games and give Maldonado and Chirinos a chance to rest before the playoffs. I would stick Tucker in RF and let him play. Reddick has faded as the season has worn on the last few years. Maybe some rest before the playoffs would reignite him. Finally, if Cristian Javier continues to dominate at Round Rock through the AAA playoffs, and if he continues to keep the walks at a reasonable level, I would drop Mayfield from the 40-man roster, add Javier and call him up. Mayfield is not going to make a playoff roster and he is not going to survive the roster moves that will have to be made prior to the Rule 5 draft. Javier will be eligible for the Rule 5 draft and will definitely be added to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the Rule 5. If he might be able to help the Astros in September and October, may as well add him to the 40-man now and bring him up.
Who do do you think we should call up in September?

We need Tucker up just in case Reddick is relegated to defensive replacement duties. Straw is our version of Terrance Gore. The team has okay speed but lacks baserunning afterburners. This might be jumping the gun, but if Bielak can pitch really well, give him a shot.

Stubbs and Tucker seem like the only two that could really benefit us and have earned it. I think Stubbs is guaranteed to be called up. He has speed and plays a valuable position. Plus, Chirinos and Maldonado have the speed of McCann so he can pinch run for them without burning through the bench. |

If so, would they part with Dustin May along with a catching prospect and another pitching/hitting? Correa + Reddick (with big cash considerations to be there 4th OF) for May and other prospects? |

Considering the future costs of accrued MLB time for players in contractual matters,...... why not call up no one, unless they can really contribute? Maybe only Tucker, and only if he is needed.

Luhnow is a magician, but it will be tough to move Reddick and his $13 million. Having a 26-man active roster next season will help Tucker. He can be carried on the ML team without moving Reddick. The team will likely carry 13 pitchers and 13 position players. 2 catchers Yuli Altuve Correa Bregman Diaz Alvarez Brantley Springer Reddick Tucker Straw 13 pitchers Am I missing anybody? |

Coun me as one who doesn't think we need 13 pitchers. I don't know when we will know the status of Correa and that will play a part in who we carry in Septemvber and the post-season. I'd like to bring up Stubbs and Tucker. I would also be sure that Straw was elibible for the post-season roster.....His speed can win us A game.

To be eligible for the playoffs, they just need to be on the 40-man on Aug 31. They no longer have to be on the 25-man by that date.
