Okay, so who can we get at the Aug 31st waiver deadline? Oh wait! That new rule makes no sense. If there is only going to be one trade deadline, maybe it should be August 15. This would give teams more time to determine if they should be buyers or sellers at the deadline. It may be that the rule limiting September 1st roster expansion to 28 will have a noticeable difference on teams in the playoffs. As it is now and has been in the past, teams that had a comfortable lead in the chase for a playoff spot could call up as many as 12 minor leaguers on September 1 and give their regulars multiple days off before the playoffs to allow them to rest and let minor injuries heal. Starting next season teams will be able to call up just 2 additional players on September 1. I could see this affecting the quality of play in the playoffs. |
