Many things to root for:
It's no secret that we want the best record in the AL (if not the league) for home field advantage, but interesting enough that may come with a tougher first round challenge.
The winner of the AL will face the WC winner (which very well could be Oakland) 2nd place in the AL will face the 3rd place team (so if Houston gets 2nd they very well could play the Twins)
If the Astros get 2nd place in the AL, who would you root for as the WC teams to play against the Yankees?
My thought would be Cleveland and Oakland to beat out the Rays and perhaps Oakland will get that shot against them.
I don't think I would want the Astros to face the Rays at all if avoidable in the first round so this same WC matchup would be good in both scenarios.
Regardless, I'd put our starting 4 (Verlander, Cole, Greinke, Miley) against any team.

Having the best record and HFA doesn't matter.

I thnk we match up pretty well with the 3 possible WC teams and ALC champion. Oak, CLE, MIN, TB.
I just hope the tream doesn't go in complacency mode, and gets distracted by thinking about the Yankees in ALCS.

Regardless of who we go up against in the playoffs, what most concerns me is our bullpen. We didn’t have a bullpen in the 2017 playoffs, but we had starters who AJ was able to plug into relief roles and they dominated. This year we have no Charlie Morton; we have no Lance McCullers and there is a good chance we won’t have Peacock either. We would never have won the championship in 2017 without those guys. Do we have any pitchers on our current staff who can fill the roles those guys filled in 2017?
I don’t think we can expect much out of McHugh. I have absolutely no confidence whatsoever in Rondon and even less in Devenski. The idea of having one of those guys come into a playoff game for us is scary. Other options currently on the 40-man roster:
Abreu - 🤨 Armenteros - 🤔 Biagini - 😕 Deetz - 👎 Harris - 🤞 James - 🙏 Martes - 😂 Osuna - 👍👎 Cionel Perez - 🥺 Pressley - 🙏 Sanchez - 🧐 Smith - 👀 Sneed - 😅 Urquidy - 🙄 Valdez - 😂
