Looking at the scratching of Gurriel, I wondered about the term Contusion. SInce I don't feel like calling my son, the paramedic about something this trivial, I thought I'd give this board a try.
Term - What we used to call:
Contusion - A deep bruise. Abrasion - A scratch. Laceration - A shallow cut.
Concussion - Knocked silly.
Please jump in with others and corrections.

A bruise used to be a badge of honor for a ball player. Now it's a lame excuse to go on the IL.
