Out of the blue tonight, the memory of playing Flies and Skinners popped unbidden into my head. Did any of you guys (especially the East Texas group) ever play flies and skinners as a kid? Geeze, what great memories I have of those days with my older brothers.

Geeze, what great memories I have of those days with my older brothers. I do remember Flies and Skinners. In my neighborhood it was a game we played when there was not enough kids to form two baseball teams. If I recall correctly, the way the game was played was one guy would toss the ball up and hit it and the other guys would compete against each other to be the one to catch the ball. Seems like you got a point for fielding a grounder and two points for catching a fly ball or something like that. Great times those were.

I played a version of it where One would Pitch, one would bat and one would field. Foul balls and right field were outs any players over 3 would go like this:
2 We'd just have batting practice.
4th plays SS 5th catches 6th, we'd split into 2 teams. 8th we'd add right field.
We only scored after getting a sufficient number of hits, doubles and HRs to go around the bases. No points for defensive plays.
We played on a little league field so the backstop was very close, eliminating the need for a catcher for less than 5 players.

We played a different variation where we would establish about 4 or 5 markers, and you got a point (1-5) depending on how far you hit the ball. The fielder would get your points if he fielded or caught the ball. Also if you fielded it or caught it, you were allowed to hit next.
