ATTENTION: I understand perfectly the difference between the regular season and the post season. I also recall that you didn't seem to think home field advantage was that important. That proves you don't know the value of home field in the post season. I think Hinch is dead wrong to start Verlander in NY in game 5 with the cold weather predicted with wind blowing out. If we lose game 4 and 5,k we have wasted Verlander and have to go home needing two wins with only Cole left to start. He would bave to go in game 6 hoping we get to game 7. Then, what do we do?? Better to go with bullpen in game 4 against Tanaka and then send Greinke out in game 5 against Paxton. Then, if necessary, we go home needing two wins with Verlander nd Cole. The Yankees have blown Tanaka and probably Paxton. That leaves them with Severino and question marks against Verlander and Cole. I like the odds of winning two in Houston better than taking one more in NY. If we go home down 3-2 after losing game 5 with Verlander pitching, we probably lose the series and Hinch looks like an idiot for wasting Verlander. I never said homefield wasn't preferred, I just don't think it's necessary. If this series was the other way around, I still think we would have done about the same thing. But my point is about the way we are currently playing compared to during the regular season. We're not playing as well as we did during the regular season. We're not hitting. If we were hitting the way we were during the regular season, I wouldn't be concerned. Do you see the difference? Homefield does count, look at the Rays series....

I knew the difference before your speal............Do you agree with pitching Verlander in game 5? I think it's a bad move unless we win game 4 I'd prefer to have them both available for Games 6 and 7 (if necessary), but I know that Verlander likes to stay on his schedule. Eh, I kind of agree with you. I don't like the matchup of JV vs. the Yankees type of offense at all, really, with his HR prone-ness this year. All things considered, it really probably doesn't matter. I think they need to maintain the approach of doing whatever it takes to win the immediate game. They shouldn't let up just because they have a lead in the series.

Pros for starting Verlander in game five:
Cold air is denser. Therefore: Balls do not travel as far. Offset somewhat by higher winds. Balls should break harder with higher spin rates causing swings and misses and just miss hits that stay in the ball park. As shown in the ALDS, Verlander works best on exactly 4 days rest.

Are you contemplating pitching Cole on three days rest as well and going with a BP game in game 7 if necessary?
Everything changes if we can pull out game 4 with Greinke.

If we lose games 4 and 5, we have wasted Verlander and will be forced to start Cole on three days rest or risk being eliminated. The sensible thing to do is stick with Greinke and the bullpen in NY and have both aces ready in Houston if needed.

Game #4- will be Greinke Game #5- If we use Verlander he will be on normal rest and if we win then we would have Cole and Verlander going game #1 and #2 of the World Series both on normal rest (Cole a few more days of it) Game #6- If necessary it would be a bullpen day regardless. There is no incentive for the World Series to have Cole start on short rest as he wouldn't be available until Game #3 anyhow. And what good is getting to game #7 if you feel you can't win it anyhow. If you saved Verlander for game #6 and still had to play game #7 then our rotation for game #2 of the World Series would be a bullpen session or Verlander on short rest. I have to believe that the Astros would win at least one of those 2 games in NY pitched by Greike and Verlander and if not then we don't deserve this series anyhow.
All we have to do is win at least 1 of the next 3 games before giving it to Cole for the closeout. I like those chances regardless of who's starting. I don't think we've ever went into a series with anyone over the past 3-5 seasons feeling we would get swept in a 3 game series.

Greinke and Verlander are both long-time veterans who most agree are headed to the HOF If both want to pitch on regular rest in the postseason, no manager would be able to veto that in all likelihood

No doubt the media and networks want a NYY vs Nats WS, but the Astros vs Nats would be a great matchup. Verlander, Cole, Greinke vs Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin would be awesome.

Burnsy on MLB Network is now insinuating that the ball from DiDi yesterday should have been a HR and the ball is the reason it didn't go.

It must have been the same ball that we kept hitting to the warning track that they never complained about..

One more thing to think about. The Astros are absolutely horrible against bullpen starters from other teams and that is what the Yanks plan to utilize for Game #6. I would not want Verlander matching up on that day if we could help it and see the Astros offense shut out (or lose 2-1). I think Houston has a solid advantage with Verlander against Paxton in Game #5

I would rather have Verlander in game 6 and Cole for game 7. Just my 2 cents.

The weather report shows that it will be 53 degrees at game time with westerly winds at 13 mph.

From what I sm hearing, Chapman is the only reliever who has pitched in over two straight games. Everything looks great if Greinke can win game 4. We are due to hit Tanaka........we have in the past.

Bah, this is better for them than us. They're using their bullpen a lot more and this gives them extra rest while at home. Actually the experts say this favors the Astros. While they will more than likely have to play 4 games in Row and the Way NY uses its Bullpen can and will affect how he can use it come day three and four.

We had the momentum and didn't need any rest. It only helps us if the series goes to seven games.

We don’t win Game 2 without HF advantage. You know this. Why not? Because we’d have to keep the Yankees from scoring after we score. That’s much harder to do considering our hitting with RISP this series and the fact that the Yankees have a supposedly deeper bullpen.
