How do we know if Reid was that competent? Why would Crane remove someone who was so great? Some guys would remove anyone to put their son in the position. I don't know how great Reid Ryan was in the job. I do know that he grew up in a baseball environment and was involved with operating a minor league franchise. I doubt if Jared Crane has a similar background. They could both be equally good. Who knows?

Reid and Nolan weren't building this team. They were helping the business side. Are you really dumb enough to think that Nolan Ryan had no input in baseball matters, especially pitching? Take a poll of the pitchers and see if he had anything to do with their success or if he had anything to do with the Astros acquiring them. Dude, do you really have to get f*cking personal on every discussion? People can disagree without either being dumb. This is why people get tired of talking to you.

Dumb was a poor choice of words.......naive would bave been more appropriate. But, usig an f-bomb in your response was also classy. And nobody is forced to talk to anyone.

If nothing else, they're benefitting by the priority acceptance over your kid and mine who aren't star athletes. Here is what really pisses me off. A college team only gets 11 baseball scholarships. My son is a sophomore in high school. He is being recruited. If he had played football or basketball it would be a FULL ride. Baseball players do NOT get the same treatment as others in college athletics. We do have 1 division 1 school in our state that has offered 30% athletic and 60% academic for a total of 90%. What if he wasn't in the steam academy? Why should a "dumb" football or basketball player get better treatment than a "dumb" or should I say not so smart baseball player? If college baseball was as popular as basketball and football, ballplayers would easily find lucrative offers under the table from recruiters

Do you all think those Cubans Gurriel, Álvarez, and Díaz would recruit Grandal here?

Cubs have made Wilson Contreras available via trade? Thoughts? The best deal Luhnow could and should make is 4yr/$100M for Strasburg. He won't accept it, but as suitors reflect on his injury history, there's a good possibility his price will drop the longer he goes unsigned
Cole's not coming back. He doesn't want to play here and he's not signing here. Ownership and management need to stop insulting the intelligence of the public on that front

I agree Cole is not coming back. They will make him an offer that he can refuse and he will. In my opinion 2020 will be a pause in the plan and a few surprising trades will be made. I am not saying that we will not enter the year expecting to win out, we will just not go all in again to win like we did with Greinke.
One can easily make a case for trading Correa Tucker Reddick Osuna and Whitley. If we can get the guys we want long term then the triggers will be pulled

If we can get the guys we want long term then the triggers will be pulled Trading Springer would be ideal if someone from the minors could replace him If Springer were to make it obvious he wants to test free agency, he'd bring in a much better haul in a trade than guys who are injured, ineffective and unproven
If keeping Springer until he's no longer under contract is the plan, adding via free agency is what clubs in our position do. The front office has a tough job this winter

Ownership and management need to stop insulting the intelligence of the public on that frontIt didn’t help that some moron fans decided to tweet Ashley Cole about the disrespect her husband caused in his final interview. Athletes all have large egos. Why would he come back to a city who has fans who come at a player’s wife when they’re upset? Cali and the East have as much or more to offer.

I think the mistake is people thinking we NEED Cole. He’d be great to re-sign but at what cost? McCullers and maybe Sánchez are coming back. If Whitley gets his act together then maybe him too. I’d rather fix the bottom of the order than spend too much on a starting pitcher. They’re already spending north of $55 million on just two players.

The front office has a tough job this winterThey need to be aggressive and lock him down. You can’t just go to the minors and replace a guy who’s been legendary in the postseason for his team the way Springer has been. It’s time to start looking at him as significant to team success as Altuve, especially with the whole outfield set to hit free agency.
