Cole is a pipe dream. We would have to trade Greinke and his salary + Correa to possibly make it work. Unless they're willing to pay the tax penalty. Maybe they have figured that he would generate enough additional revenue to justify paying the penalty. If his being here keeps attendance up and more merchandise sold, it could be worth it. Having Cole, Verlander, and Greinke in the rotation has to make them WS facorites again. For all we know, they could be planning to deal Greinke. If they are going to make a run at Cole, they are going to dump some salary somewhere

Cole may be too steep but maybe we can land Wheeler.

Players I would trade:
1. Correa 2. Reddick 3. Marisnick 4. Devo 5. Biagini
Players I would let go:
1. Maldonado 2. McHugh 3. Miley 4. Non-tender 3 thru 6 from Players I would trade
Necessary to keep:
Chirinos
Player I’d like to keep:
Cole and Sanchez.
I am not willing to write Sanchez off. If healthy, he could be a back end of the rotation guy or quality reliever.

Wheeler would be a good pickup. I would think the Mets would have an interest in Correa. I am anxious to see what they offer Cole. Less than Verlander money won't get him. If he is determined to play in California, we are wasting time.

The lack of depth in the rotation is the biggest concern by far. Greinke was a nice add for this, but we still have a big hole or two to fill (TIWSS). I don't see how we can afford any of the pricier FAs and stay under the luxury tax. Correa needs to be traded for controllable pitching depth, and we might have to give up another prospect or two to get MLB-ready pitching depth.
There are a number of veteran starting pitchers that would be available for fairly reasonable prices as well.
And, unless your comfortable with a Straw-Diaz-Tucker OF after next year, they're going to have to keep a lookout for deals on OFers.

Cole was extended a qualifying offer, Astros declined 2020 option on Devo but he remains with the club as an arbitration-eligible player, Kent Emanuel added to the 40-man roster, and McCullers reinstated from the 60-day IL.

One free agent starter worth looking at is Jake Odorizzi...he made $9.5 million in 2019,,,,,,,,went 15-6 with an ERA of 3.51, 178 k's in 159 innings.
