Something like $5mm between what Springer is asking for and the team is offering. He's asking for $22.5 million and Houston is offering $17.5 million The Red Sox gave Mookie Betts $27 million to avoid arbitration. Springer is asking for $22.5 million. Astros are offering $17.5. Does anyone on the board think Betts is worth $9.5 million more than Springer in 2020? Seems like the Astros are low balling George. I think Springer wins his arbitration case.

That $17.5 million arbitration figure the Astros submitted for Springer probably won’t help their chances of signing him next offseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if he replaces Betts when Mookie leaves.

Correa settled for $8 million for the half season he will play in 2020.

Let's get him signed up through at least 2025. Luhnow.... You know what to do, $22.5M sounds like a bargain.

This guy is the heart and soul of the Astros.......give him a good, long-term deal. I had rather trade Altuve than lose Springer.

I look at it like this... They already know Springer is going to be gone so they're going to try and spend as little money as they can on this final year.
If he wanted an extension, there would have been an extension. Enjoy this final year and then watch him head to the northeast for a salary we probably don't want to pay anyways when you look at his health history.

We talked about Springer’s situation a couple years ago when he first signed his contract extension for $24 million in two years. It was an over pay in the first year but an under pay in the second and management used the logic that it made sense because it set up the final year of arbitration. Normally arbitration awards are based upon previous awards and the amount of a raise received is based on what other raises received by other people in arbitration. That is why Houston’s management is lowballing Springer. The intent in my opinion is to try to get to the spot where they can negotiate a deal. I just do not see this happening. And think that we should make a trade.
The perfect trade me for Springer would be to trade him to the Mets for Syndergaard. He has one more year of eligibility after this year and his contract should cost about $8.7 million this year. A trade like that solves our pitching issues for the next two years and gets us under the salary cap second level this year.

I had rather trade Altuve than lose Springer. That doesn't make any sense. WRONG. What makes no sense is to piss Springer off by making him such an asinine offer. They offer him $17.5 million for a year while they pay Altuve $29 million.......As I said, the Springer offer is an insult and will make George harder to extend. He is worth every bit as much as Altuve and probably more. He sparks the offense. When he is out, our offense suffers much more than when Altuve is injured. The smart thing to do is make him the offer I suggested.......5 years at $150 million. He won't take $17.5 million and would be a damn fool if he did. Unless Luhnow gets busy on this, it will be his biggest and mostly blunder to date.

No. They don't know that Springer will be gone until they make him the right kind of offer and he refuses it. Stop screwing around with a damn wimp like Correa and trade his ass......use money wasted on him to pay George.

Sounds like a good trade except the starting rotation will be tumbleweeds in two years. That’s four possible SP’s gone (Verlander, Greinke, McCullers, Syndergaard). Get ready for some pre-2015 baseball.

No. Give him a contract every bit equal to or more than Altuve gets. And before I am,accused of bashing Altuve, I am not. I am merely stating that Springer is more valuable to the Astros. Both are great players, but, I would deal Altuve in a heartbeat if it meant keeping Springer.

Check the numbers.....Compare our production without Altuve with George with what we do without George. Altuve is easier to replace.

One second he’s carrying the team on his shoulders and the next his bat is about a foot from a pitch for several games. Altuve has his streaks too and can be really annoying, but I don’t think Springer should get significantly more money.

Springer is one of the most clutch post season players of the past 20 years. How do you put a price tag on that?

It takes two to tango and Springer does not want to dance. If someone wants to pretend that he does then by all means keep dreaming. Otherwise trade him or just let him walk next winter. He ain’t signing here anymore than Cole was.

I think we can get Syndergaard to sign an extension as part of the deal. I also think that McCullers will as well.

Just like Cole who finally got an offer from his boyhood team, George just might be looking at New England.

If you are gonna do that it eould be at the deadling with springer. Your gonna get a feel for what he is all about and where the Astros are.
Needless to say you have to get talent for talent even if he would be a rental.
As for Reddick its just about who can take a contract or do we have to add something on top of it to make it worth while?
Reality is we are screwed once its time on Verlander and Grienke. So the thought would be get some young pitchers in here with high upside

Springer will be 31 in September, so I'd have no problem giving him a 5-year deal. Problem is he may want a 7-8 year deal, which gets iffy, and again he may want to play closer to home on the East Coast. They may be low-balling him because they either don't think they can sign him next year or they already know that they won't. I'd absolutely hate to see Springer in a different uniform.
