This has gotten a little too real for me. My oldest son called and told me he was home sick. He is being tested for COVID-19 because several of his calls were to persons with Covid-19 symptoms. I know that the odds are that each has only a 7% chance of actually having Covid-19, let alone passing it on to a trained first responder, but it's still concerning.
One concern is that if he's responding with the fire department rather than as a paramedic, he has less protective equipment (for disease) in making a call. But that has become normal because of the closer proximity of fire personnel than many ambulances which are still private.
He has worked as a paramedic for more than 10 years, but has recently given up his second jobs for Trinity Bay to take a full time position with his third job as a first responder intructor for LIT.
I don't care what the odds are, it worries me.

Checking in From Long Island. I have around 2000 cases in Suffolk and I know we had some teachers in my son school has shown up with it. A couple weeks ago My son had a 101-103.5 temperature for a solid week. Some other stuff never tested for the Regular Flu or the Convid-19. I was pretty worried about it for him. My county also has the second highest number of deaths behind NYC. in NY
We are in lock-down and now my wife has been set up at home for work even though they are considered very essential business as they maintain all the Fire Alarm system for a good portion of NYC major buildings.

I cannot see any Baseball being played in the Big Apple even in June. The cases keep expanding in the City, one of the worse areas in the country. People are trying to escape NY and that is going to make this problem even worse, especially in the Northeast. In our town they have stopped the bus and limousine service from NYC. They want people to volunteer to do a 14 day hibernation if they do drive on their own, good luck with that. I assume Cole in nowhere near the area, good luck with your new team.

His fever broke, but they didn't wind up testing him because he didn't meet all the protocols.

So not essential. Got it. So being essential to essential employees does not make one essential. Sounds like Government.

Some numbers: About 750k cases world-wide, close to 36k deaths. World-wide death rate around 4.7%. US death rate about 1.7%. Italy has over 100k cases and over 11k deaths, running around 11.4% death rate. This stuff is particularly bad news if you're older and have underlying medical issues (particularly lung problems), but as we've seen it can kill within any age group. Anecdotally, if you have an inflammatory condition you are also at risk. The virus kills primarily through lung inflammation, particularly associated with cytokine storm. Essentially the afflicted patient smothers. Please be careful people. While the so-called "final numbers" will be months if not years in coming, my suspicion is that this will be far from the deadliest airborne pathogen we've faced (1918 Spanish flu killed 40%), but it is a killer nonetheless and should be treated as such.

It’s hard to believe it’s the year 2020, and the best course of action to fight a virus is to stay inside.

My Hope is that we've flattened the curve enough to get the cure pack produced and distributed before the deadliest days ahead. I really believe it's a race right now. If we can kick this in the next month and see a flat death rate rather than an exponential one and get the antibody test out there, then we can return to normalcy. This will not be because it wasn't a threat, but because we took the actions on every front quickly by cutting red tape. burocracy can kill too.
On the local front, Orange County went from one case to six cases in two days. I guess you can say it's made it out of the cities and into the boon docks.

Country singer Joe Diffie died from COVID-19 yesterday. Singer/songwriter John Prine is circling the drain.

I hope everyone is doing well and healthy. I am thankful that everyone in my family is healthy, but I was directly affected by this COVID-19 crud today. My wife was part of a mass lay off at her job this morning. I feel terrible for her but fortunately she was given a decent severance.

Luckily(?) my wife and I are both considered "essential" as we work in healthcare. I'm lucky to be able to do my work from home, but my wife still has to go to the hospital.

It's not COVID-19, but a man I've been trying to help for the last 10 years by bringing him lunches and encouraging him to get off drugs and alcohol made his last mistake yesterday. I had helped him get food and a phone card after I brought him lunch yesterday. When I went to his trailer today, it was burned. I found out a little bit later he had died in the fire. I wouldn't exactly call him a friend, but we'd had associations for a long time.
First he had burned the house. He said from wiring, but it was probably trying to make meth. The the garage that was detached became his place. Then that burned. Then his dad arranged to get him a small trailer. But his dad passed away last month. He ran out of time to make peace with God.

Updated numbers: World-wide just over a million cases, close to 55k deaths (5.2% mortality). In the US, 250k cases, just over 6k deaths (2.4%). I have been exposed but I don't have the virus (yet).
