We need not emphasize who the closer is on this club in my opinion. It's been fluid since Gregerson lost the job almost 2 years ago. We don't have a prototypical fireman and I understand the urgency to trade for one. Devo makes the most sense to slot in the 9th, but he isn't infallible. So it wouldn't hurt to use someone else in the role once in a while to take the pressure off, instead of anointing one person as our 9th-inning guy
I guess I'd have been more upset had Giles lost a lead two nights ago instead of holding a deadlock the offense still can't get out the gate on. Do we win Tues night had someone else pitched? I'm not so sure

There should never be set closers. Who is the best rested reliever for the situation? All you need.

I don’t have too much of a problem with women getting tattoos. I just think getting them in areas like the face, neck, and thighs are total turnoffs. The chest and butt are too sacred for them too. I guess I really am not much of a fan of woman tats. Less is more. Old fashioned here. Seeing a tatoo on a gorgeous woman is like seeing someone scribble some grafittii on a Monet painting

I agree. If I remember correctly there was reportedly a lot of dissatisfaction in the clubhouse in August last season due to the fact that Luhnow didn’t get anything done at the non-waiver trade deadline to provide the team the help it needed to get over the hump. The dissatisfaction in the clubhouse was reflected in the team’s performance on the field. Once Luhnow acquired Verlander, the team caught fire and the rest is history. It has got to be discouraging for the players to see Marisnick’s and Gattis’s names in the starting lineup day after day when they are not coming anywhere close to getting the job done. Especially Gattis. At least Jake can contribute on defense. Gattis is making no contribution at all. Having Gattis, Marisnick...and Marwin, so far.., in the starting lineup every day is like giving the opposing pitchers 3 free outs out of every 9 at-bats we have. That is putting a lot of pressure on the other 6 starters to pick up the slack. Time to make some moves to shake things up. I think fans look more into player psyches and clubhouse attitudes more than the players do. I'm sure they all agree they should be doing more, but I bet they aren't chomping at the bit to get rid of or demote their teammates less than a quarter way into the season. They understand better than anyone that there are hot streaks, cold streaks, injuries, and that it's a long ass season. A winning team looks happy and dominant. A losing team looks unhappy. At the end of the day, they know they're still a 1st place team that has won it all and has all the pieces to do it again. They've just hit an offensive lull. if you didnt/couldn't do your job at Starbucks for 1/4 of a year, you would be fired. No?

Comparing two things doesn't make them the same.

I also have the added bias of working in corrections and law enforcement for decades, and associate tattoos with criminality. Especially blue ink ones.

And actually no, I don't think Starbucks would fire a poor performer after about a month's time.

Leg/thigh tats are trashy to me, almost as much as face or neck ones.

I don't have a problem with chick tats if they're small and on the ankle, small of the back or shoulder blade

Times have changed. In my college days (mid to late '70's) The tattoo population almost totallyconsisted of Marines,Sailors,Bikers, Strippers, and Prostitutes.

I fell in love with a stripper one time. She had a cute Tweety Bird tat on the most glorious derriere that I had ever seen.
I shortly fell out of love with her, though. While watching Tweety jiggle, I said to her "I see Tweety bird..but where is Putty Tat?"
She responded "Babe, if you don't know where the pussy cat is in THIS bar, you're in the wrong f***ing place."
My friends and everyone else within earshot fell over laughing.

There should never be set closers. Who is the best rested reliever for the situation? All you need. On this we can agree. Go with the matchup(s) in the same way as when picking a pinch hitter. If the opposing team has guys coming up who can’t hit a curve ball to save their life, but crush fastballs/sliders, bring in the reliever who is the best junk chunker. If they have guys coming up who can hit the offspeed stuff, but can’t handle the heat, bring on your flame thrower.

We agree with Todd on that, but that’s not how baseball is run. Money dictates when you pitch. Zach Britton won’t pitch the 8th to set up Brad Brach.
