McCullers vs. Tanaka
Pros:
Tanaka is 0-2 with an ERA over 10 against us for his career in 4 starts, and he has been bad at MMP. McCullers is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.08 against the Yankees in 3 starts and has not given up a HR to anybody in their starting lineup. McCullers at home for his career: 14-5 2.33 ERA. Springer, Correa, and Altuve have destroyed Tanaka, and Bregman has a grand slam off of him.
Cons:
Didi, Judge, and Gardner have all had good success against McCullers (in limited ABs). .625 AVG for Didi. Tanaka is a winner and we're struggling, offensively. Marisnick is starting...
Springer Altuve Correa Gurriel Reddick Bregman Gonzalez McCann Marisnick

And again, the 1-4 guys will set the tone. Last night their 1-4 went 6 of 17 with 4 RBI and 4 Runs scored. Our 1-4 went 2 of 16 with 2 infield singles and 0 RBI and Runs scored.

Time for a big game from 1-4. Hopefully Tanaka is their remedy and his splitter is off.

Honestly that's where he should stay. His defense at 1B is not very good and that will help keep him fresher. If they want to make changes, bring White up to play 1B and push Marwin back into his true utility role. We don't need both Fisher and Marisnick, and right now I'm leaning towards keeping Fisher since he actually still has potential. Marisnick, despite a good year last year, is the odd man out if they really want to make a change.

The problem with Gurriel at DH is who should play 1B in his stead? Is White that good defensively? Marwin is not exactly Pujols in his prime over there.

I want to believe the Astros will earn a split in this series, but I don’t see it happening. I really hope I’m wrong, though. I’ve just seen way too many squandered opportunities the past month from our boys.

White has not been good defensively so far in limited MLB time, but he is still young enough to get better.

If you told me during ST that the Astros would start the year 21-12 with a 2-2 record against the Yankees (and be in 1st place) despite not hitting as well as expected, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat.
Now they just need to win today to make that happen...

Even if they brought up White and cancelled Gattis I'd still probly rotate at DH

Agreed, but I'd have Gurriel be the DH the bulk of the time when others don't need to rest.

Yuri, as Bagwell calls him, is gonna go off today. Two hits, at least one of which is a 2-run dinger.

Time for a big game from 1-4. Hopefully Tanaka is their remedy and his splitter is off. The 2015 Astros beat Tanaka in the wild card game and this year's team is better than that one.

Lance just keep feeding they Yanks a steady diet of curveballs all afternoon.

to much talent on the Astros to keep hitting like we are. Yankees have reasonable pitching but not up to being the cause of us only scoring 2 runs in 27 innings. Bob Gibson in his prime would not cause that.

He has been throwing all curveballs, no knuckle curves as yet. Looked good to start the game. Good control.

well if you are going to strike out I guess making him throw you at least 5 pitches.
Altuve just missed getting something started.
